This is more about the waitress because the food has always been very good. My wife and I had dinner and drinks and the bill came to about $125.00. I put down two 100 dollar bills. The waitress came and looked at the bill and the money and said would you like change. I wasn't going to give her roughly a 60% tip. Service was ok. Thought that was rude and haven't been back since. They did have very good Filet and Lobster but we haven't been back since.

Summary: Had dinner for mother's day, and had not been here since new management took over. Party of 7. Pros: I like the decor and the menu. Waiters/Waitresses are very nice. My eventual order was a rib eye, it was cooked and seasoned well. Bake potato was good. We have fond memories of the old Bold Knight so we want to like this place. Cons: Similar to previous reviews, VERY slow service. Although the employees are very nice, I agree the come off as overwhelmed and can't handle a mini rush of dinner. I didn't think they were that busy, and had enough staff IMO, yet they operated otherwise. We overheard two waitresses debating who should take our table, even though we had reservations. Both said to the other I can't take anymore tables. Then why sit us and take our reservation? Slow to get drinks, appetizers, and food. Waitress asked if we wanted more, bread, but sorry dear, you never brought us bread in the first place. Asked twice for another fork. Never received, took one off another table. Had to ask twice for horseradish. Although nice, our waitress could not handle our party of seven. She completely butchered the bill, overcharging us for the prime ribs (regular vs. extra cut). They ran out of prime rib so I volunteered for the rib eye thinking it was cheaper, it wasn't, but they charged me for the rib eye. Upon taking the bill to the waitress she corrected the mistakes and charged me the lesser price dinner. Conclusion: Ok to visit if you have a smaller party and come at an off time. The staff need more training or they need more staff on hand.

Sadly this restaurant is just a shadow of what once was. Sure the location is better but the service, atmosphere and food have really gone down a few levels. I have been going to The Bold Knight since I was a little, I'm now 26 with a family of my own. The only thing this restaurant has is the fondue. It has remained the same quality since I was young. Yesterday my partner and I went for lunch, there was only three other couples besides us but we never received utensils until our meal. Our waitress was hiding in the kitchen it seemed and only refilled our drinks once. The steak was mediocre and I feel like I could have got better quality at sizzler yet they still charge 21$ for it. I don't get it. It makes me sad that this once great steak restaurant has gone down the tubes.

Sat at the bar for about 20 minutes.had a big daddy i p.a. and a cup of clam chowder ...maybe a tad too salty but good. Bartender very friendly.
(4)Kevin P.
Decent food, well stocked bar with reasonable prices for the quality. Service was great - ask for Geronimo. They have Sunday ticket, so this may be a good Sunday routine. Food isn't highest quality, but you get what you pay for. It's reasonably priced and a good value meal.

The only thing saving this place was the fondue. The "new food" from "new management" is ok. I had read on yelp they were closed but they aren't. I called to make a reservation an hour in advance and they acted like they were so booked and I had better be there at the specific time. So we get there and there is only one other couple in the whole place....Just odd. I had the ravioli's would not recommend them.....

Something has happened recently - this the sort of place that I like to take my family for brunch and such. A safe bet with older folks. Well, we recently took my grandparents here for Easter brunch (2013) and found a buffet instead of being able to order off the menu. That was odd, to say the least. But what was more disappointing was the place seemed to be grossly understaffed (even in a buffet mode) and not prepared to operate under these new working conditions. For example - When we went up to get our food, there was absolutely no place to put the tops and there wasn't any room to put the serving spoons back. My wife dropped a spoon because there simply wasn't any room on the table. As for the food, it was not good. We had an out of town guest with us, and the food simply was not cooked properly. The prime rib was not pleasant, and I could tell that this upset some of my table members (they always get that here and all). I think that something has happened recently, as our experience was very different from just a couple of months ago (Thanksgiving 2012). I don't know if they were having issues on this day, but reading some of the other reviews - I suspect that management has been failing. The place is a tradition, and I hope that this was a one off - that they were simply having a bad day.

My experience was "ok" but my husband unfortunately did get a very upset stomach following the meal we had. The interior is clean and the location was convenient for going to the Cirque du Soleil show afterwards. I ordered the Bold Knight Panini and had a side order of sliced tomatoes put inside the panini. It came with potatoes like most of their breakfast entrees. My husband ordered their breakfast burrito. The amount wasn't too overwhelming and the price was not high but to sum, I think I would rather pay more for better quality food.

Just had my daughter's sweet 16 here on Saturday. We were impressed to say the least. Everything went off without a hitch. Our consultant was Alma. She was great and made sure we had everything we needed. We had the entire downstairs banquet room to ourselves and our guests were allowed to sit outside of the banquet room as well. We chose to serve their newest option the Mexican buffet which is provided by their partner Las Cazuelas. We had chicken mole, steak fajitas, rice, beans and green salad. We also added 4 gallons each of horchata and cantaloupe agua frescas. All the food was delicious and everyone loved it. All of our guests liked the venue and the staff was very accommodating. We were happy that other than decorating beforehand we needed only to relax and enjoy ourselves. Thank you to Alma, Jaime and all the staff at Bold Knight for helping us make this night unforgettable.

My husband and I have been coming here for breakfast for the past couple years and we've never had a bad experience! We've brought other family members as well. I think their omelette is fantastic, big, too! The hash browns are cooked to perfection, crispy outside..soft inside. It's a nice clean place with a nice staff!
(5)Janet L.
Had the steak and lobster..was cooked well and tasty. Came on a night that had a very loud playing band, service was ok but could be better since the restaurant wasnt busy with patrons

Geronimo! He's the reason to come hang out! NFL Sunday Ticket and three TV's to watch. Back for dinner after coming to breakfast here and enjoying again!

HORRIBLE.. I used to love the Bold knight when on Monterey Rd. The service sucked; the hostess was WAY more attentive then the waitress! We tipped her not the waitresses! The FONDUE was not as good as before, the bead was cold and hard like it had been sitting all day! Would not go back!

After reading a few of the reviews, I was caught between "uh oh, sounds bad" and "Gee, maybe these others are just picky. Surely, you can't have THAT many things go wrong." We gave it a try as we were meeting family there. The good: The bistro was nicely decorated and we were seated promptly. Fondue was warm and delicious. Spaghetti was "awesome!". French fries, mmmmm, my favorite kind. The bad: The coffee was warm, not hot. Silverware had water-spots all over ( I suppose one can conclude that they have indeed been washed, but it just looks dirty). Service was slow. Friendly, but slow. Burger really lacked any kind of flavor one would expect from a steakhouse. Wait. This is a bistro now. Soup was lukewarm. Chicken pita was pretty, but bland and chicken wasn't even fully cooked. The ugly: No French Dip on Sundays. Something burning in the kitchen? Exhaust fans not working? Dining room filled with smoke. But reading the other bad reviews, all these things seem to be common. Odd. And here I am 6 hrs later. My hair smells like smoke. And not the nice kind that drifts around one's campsite. Ew.

Cheese Fondue is the best!!

My mom and I went to The Bold Knight Restaurant for dinner yesterday. I was craving fondue, so the Bold Knight seemed like the perfect place to go. Our waitress was very nice, we were seated very quickly. We ordered their famous fondue of course, Their fondue was amazing! I ordered the Monte Cristo for the main course and my mom ordered the French Dip. They nailed the French Dip. Absolutley delicious. The monte cristo they made more like a sandwich, and it was okay, still good, but now how its typically supposed to be made. The environment of the restuarant was gorgeous, the bar looked so inviting, I know I will definatley be back to check it out! The prices were fair, and my mom and I were very pleased. I definatley recommend you check out the Bold Knight Restaurant.

Long line at I-Hop? This place is just a block down. Same price for a better service. They have amazing Omelletes or you can just go for the basic egg and a side of bacon with fresh fruits. They have ample parking space in the back or when the place gets busy you can valet for free. They also have a bar to the right as you go in and some more sitting area. They offer booth sitting and regular tables by the window(my fav). Sundays they offer free mimosas. The average customers like my fellow yelper said is middle age. Staff is great and attentive. Place is cleaner and way more classier than any other b-fast place. They don't have the stuff that I love at I-Hop-the sweet creme filled crepes :(

Sorry I believe it was nostalgia that had me try this place again. Unfortunately, it seems out of place in the new space and the food too expensive for such mediocre food. Sorry but it's true! I wanted it tob e so much better--- something's don't live up to your memories of them.
(1)Haily W.
Their cheese fondue is worth 5 stars alone!! Bad thing about it is that it never makes me feel full so I just keep eating and eating and eating that delicious orange stuff. I've tried something new each time I've been here. The prime rib is good, and the clam chowder is especially excellent in my opinion, but I didn't not care at all for their crab cakes. The flavor was ok, but the texture was way off. Too uniform and cat food like. The atmosphere is lacking a bit though. It feels just a bit grimy and sad inside. I've been seated in the same booth multiple times that has duct tape holding it together. Overall I find the only real draw here is the cheese fondue, which is fine by me. I'll happily keep coming back just for that.

This place failed me again! I called in my order for the Salmon Salad when the guy asked for my name I said Eva. He then said " The good Eva or bad Eva?" WTF!? why is this guy saying things like this to customers. The salad failed! It was missing ingredients that were described on the website. The salmon was eh? I won't be going back.
(1)Heidi N.
What happened to this place? I ate at bold knight my entire life but the food, service etc is definitely not the same. The cheese fondue is still great but next time I'll come here and order the fondue for an appetizer then head somewhere else for dinner. What a disappointment.

Long wait for food, noisy, and got my order wrong.

This is a review written by a friend who does not Yelp! She had such a horrible experience that she asked me to convey her dismay! Is there a possibility to give a no-star rating? I made reservations for a family dinner here last night. We had a marginally large group ( only 11 of us). I have had WAY larger groups of people in other restaurants. Our wait staff was okay. They were occasionally attentive. They kept our glasses full and the were very nice. The problem is that NO ONE seems organized. We waited a long time for a food in what was an obviously empty restaurant. My daughter ordered a chef salad that came to the table as just lettuce. Nothing else, just lettuce! As our food came to the table, we salted our food and began to comment on the unique taste of our meal. As we continued another daughter decided to taste the salt, only to realize that the salt shakers had been filled with sugar. The waitress apologized and removed all of our meals. The replaced them all. What should have been a two hour meal turned into a 4 hour endeavor. We should have left but it is not in us. I would not recommend this restaurant for anything except the nice lady who served my table.

Very saddened to report I think the Bold Knight era has ended. Apparently the bold Knight has merged or been taken over by Las Casuelas Restaurant. This Sunday we visited, a photo copied menu was sloppily taped to the window announcing the change, followed by a five minute wait to see a hostess when the place was empty. We got seated and never saw our waiter. We ordered coffee from the hostess, coffee was luke warm at best. Bad vibe. We paid for the coffees and left. Saddened to say this was my last visit, been coming to the bold Knight since I was a kid.

I recently went to the Bold Knight for the third time since it moved to North First Street. Our party of four had an early lunch on a Thursday. I'm glad we got there early because it wasn't that crowded yet, but the free parking lot was almost full, and I don't think there are any other free parking options nearby after their parking lot. The service was friendly and quick. We got menus and drinks right away. Three of us had the split pea soup; the other had the side salad. I thought the soup was too thick, but the flavor was good, and the others really enjoyed it. The salad was reported to be very crispy iceberg lettuce and enjoyable. Unfortunately, my filet of sole was a bit over-cooked. While the thickest portions were good, the thinner portions were tough without moistness. I liked the rice and steamed veggies. But since I ordered the dish because of the fish, I'd give it an overall "Nyeh". The decor is kinda retro, in my opinion, but it must be intentional since Bold Knight opened at this location only about five years ago. I like that they kept the full-length wall mural from the former 840 North First restaurant. I've always thought that it helps create a fun, social, and "cool jazz" dinner environment. I have to say that the most distracting element of my experience (and why I'm giving Bold Knight three stars instead of four stars) was the dirty light fixtures. I sat in the corner furthest from the bar, and those light fixtures had tons of dead bugs in them. I wouldn't have wanted to be the patrons who were seated directly underneath. I think it such a poor reflection of the restaurant's priorities. I can imagine the Bold Knight could be a very good dining experience. I used to love the cheese fondue from the old Monterey Highway location. And parts of this most recent visit were good. I think it'll be a matter of whether you happen to get a good quality-control day.

I came here after they closed to check it out. The waitress but was nice but took way too long to bring us a soup and salad. Keep in mind there are only 2 tables. ..we should get much faster service if the place is sooo empty. It was too empty and quiet and had no music playing in the background. The cheese fondue was good though. Also, tell me why we are getting paper napkins instead of linen when we are paying $30 for a steak? And why did it take almost 50 minutes to get chicken and steak when there are only 2 tables in the WHOLE restaurant? AND.....my bf ordered Root Beer and what he got was a watery Dr. Pepper. Also, his steak was supposed to be a galic steak with roasted garlic, mushrooms, and blue cheese. Well the blue cheese and roasted garlic were missing. BS, not coming here again.

1 Star for the Fondue @ $6.00 4 empty stars for the lack of any seasonings. We ordered the Chicken Strips for the kids (how can chicken strips have no flavor?), three Rib Eye Steaks (Menu said they are perfectly trimmed and marbled - instead they are bland and mine was literally half fat... Seriously just a 6" by 6" slab of fat), and the Seafood Treasure platter (which would have tasted better had they loaded it with pennies, nickels, and dimes). Nothing had flavor (except the ketchup, A-1, Sodas, and mixed drinks). If your looking for a good place for drinks and Fondue - 5 stars... But if your looking for flavor, try dirt; cheap and doesn't take an hour to be served! Bonus: my brother-in-law was pleased that his throw up an hour later was flavorless!!! Bulimic's will be stoked!

The Bold Knight serves excellent options for happy hour and the atmosphere is quite nice! I've now been a happy customer on several occasions after the recent discovery of this place and am pretty fond of it. It was a bit chilly out and I asked if I could sit by the fireplace with s friend and it was promptly turned on! I wasn't sure what I wanted to order, so the waiter asked me a few questions about my taste and voila, a perfect solution was on it's way fast! ALSO, this is a fantastic option during Cirque Du Soleil as downtown is quite a ways. Have a nice dinner before the show at this festive venue serves up fabulous options at reasonable prices. I wish I had discovered this place earlier!

There's this episode of NewsRadio where Bill tries to convince everyone that being called "adequate" is actually high praise. I kept thinking about it during our meal here, in all its adequatulent glory. No frills here, but unlike places where they concentrate on simple food deliberately, this place doesn't seem like it has the skills to add the frills. As others have noted, the vaunted fondue tastes exactly like the innards of a Kraft singles grilled cheese sandwich. (When we asked the guy who delivered it to our table what cheeses were in it, he promptly said "American," and then "something Greek," and "beer.") My fettucine alfredo with chicken was passable. Boyfriend did like his steak, which had good flavor despite being a little chewy. We're glad the place was open on New Year's Day when a ton of other places weren't, but I'm not thinking we're going to make special trips here in future...
(2)C B.
Very poor service. The waiter didn't know if veggies came with the dinner, had to ask someone else. Wasn't offered any bread. Food was terrible! Worst of all, there were buckets catching water that was leaking from the ceiling in the hallway leading to the restroom which is underground below the kitchen! Old decor, odor that smells moldy/dusty, sucky service....don't go here! I should mention we went on a Saturday afternoon. Nothing like their first place.

Recently my sister threw me a baby shower in the banquet room of the Bold Knight. We had the whole lower floor to ourselves. It was great because my elderly grandparents were able to take the elevator down without a problem and the space was large enough to provide for our group. They provided a server for drinks and food and he even served our cake for us. We had a really nice time and I'd recommend it for anyone looking to have an intimate gathering for a reasonable price (actually relatively cheap for downtown San Jose).
(5)Angie G.
The drinks for happy hour were fabulous but the fact that the bartender picked our mint for our mojito from the bush outside and actually brought in the roots and soil to pluck the leaves from was pretty disgusting, the price was right though.... Now the food, wow what a disappointment. The dinner steaks were completely under portioned and actually tasted pretty disgusting. We ask for our bill at least 5 times because our party was going to be late for a show being shown downtown. Overall it was a bad experience and most likely wouldn't go back willingly.
(2)Stephen S.
This was my first time here since they moved to their location on 1st St. (with its new bistro name). I liked the location and the ambiance of the restaurant. It was nice and quiet. My wife and I both ordered Prime Rib as that's what we remembered liking years ago at the old location. I was surprised how fast it came out - less than 5 minutes! The service was fine, but the food was only so-so. It was actually very bland. I never add salt to anything and I was even shaking some salt into the au jus and on the meat. I've never encountered anything like it. I'm hoping that it was a fluke because I'd like to go back sometime.

I went to Bold Knight Bistro this past Mother's day - what a mistake. The restaurant itself was clean and had a classy interior. The fact that you are greeted by a valet parking attendant sets the tone for high expectations, because let me tell you, the food is less than stellar. I would say mediocre at best. I don't know why everyone makes a big deal about fondue at the Bold Knight , maybe because it used to be free at the Monterey Road location and people felt it was something special since it was complimentary (I'm guessing?). The cheese tastes like salty, melted cheez-whiz and the bread was dry and stale tasting. I'd honestly rather have the cheese fondue at Jake's Pizza or The Garrett than from Bold Knight Bistro. The bar - dimly lit and seemingly upscale. The bar has tastier drinks than the menu has food. I had the cucumber martini and my boyfriend's mother had a blueberry mojito, both drinks were made with fresh ingredients: real cucumber, fresh blueberries and mint. The food - blah. I had a plate (I can't remember the name...it had the word "feast" in it I believe) which came with: filet mignon wrapped in bacon, shrimp, and a side of vegetables along with boiled potatoes. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked but was under-seasoned, thankfully the bacon wrapped around this medallion provided some kind of flavor. My shrimp was overcooked, rubbery and the cook forgot to remove the poo-pockets so they tasted disgusting like ocean sewage. Everything else on my plate was of hospital food caliber. If you eat here, make sure you spend most of your time at the bar and just eat meat - don't bother with their sides because they taste like somebody just boiled some veggies in plain water and sprinkled salt on them afterwards.

I remember coming here with my family when I was a kid, back when it was on Monterey Rd. The cheese fondue is 'Americanized' but it is what most people keep coming back for, simple melted I wanna say 'Velveeta' type cheese but its addicting. The dinners are simple, hearty and to the point, nothing fancy about the food. The place is clean and nice, I put together my my company's Christmas party here and they did a good job, there was another holiday party going on that night, so we reserved the upstairs part of the place and the other company reserved the downstairs banquet room. It is very accommodating for large parties and groups. This place is a bit on the expensive side for dinner, but if you go for lunch the prices are not bad. Try it! make sure you get the fondue it is a must at this place.
(4)Monica L.
This place was just okay....not really a restaurant I would rave about or recommend. The ambiance was nice and our waitress was very friendly. I ordered a chicken pita and my friends both ordered the beef stew (I had major food envy--the beef stew is really good!). Its really close to the Courthouse/Jail in San Jose so its a good place to go to when you are on Jury Duty and wanting to kill some time (like we had today).
(2)Victoria Y.
A bit over priced but based on location and convenience- not bad. My aunty took me and the bf here for a business lunch. He got the chicken sandwich with fries which he said was delicious. I got the creamy chicken pasta which was yummy. The service was great because the waiters knew my aunt and had a crush on her. While this serves lunch crowds, be prepared to take a long lunch!
(3)Kelly T.
Came here last night with the boyfriend just to grab some appetizers since we weren't too hungry (and I wasn't too in the mood for steak). They have a pretty extensive app. menu and was impressed by the different selections. We end up choosing the fondue, meatballs, calamari and crab cakes. I have to say that usually when you order from the appetizer menu from the bar it comes out in very small portions but these were huge portions! There was like 10 meatballs, a huge platter of calamari (with two great dipping sauces I might add), 3 big crab cakes and endless amounts of cheese and squeeshy bread. Everything was really tasty except the cheese for the fondue tasted just like Velvetta - hmmmm........ OH! And you have to try their "Down and Dirty" Martini - SO GOOD!
(3)Johnny J.
Breakfast............. 4 stars This is a very good breakfast choice in the area. The omelets are delicious and the service responsive. We have been here a few times now for breakfast and it has always been enjoyable. Plus they comp all tables with lokoumades which are these fresh hot donut hole type things. If you live in the area this is a good option over the IHOP up the street. Dinner............... 2 stars With such great experiences for breakfast, I wish I could say the same for dinner. I have been to the Bold Knight on Monterrey Highway and it was good. It is similar here but I just haven't had the best experiences. First of all they have a parking lot with a valet service and no other options nearby unless you want to park around the block on the street which is where the overflow of cars on the last night I went were parked by the valet staff. They were running back scaling a fence to retrieve cars parked on public streets. My dinner to this day I am wondering if the steak that was given to me was a NY and not the rib-eye I ordered. The medium rare was very rare and I guess I should have sent it back. My bad for being complacent. I am sure we will try it again someday for dinner but for now we will stick the the breakfast service we have enjoyed a few times here.
(3)Ed Z.
I'd remember going to the Bold Knight (old location) as a kid and really enjoyed both breakfast and dinner (including cheese fondue). So we found the new location looking for breakfast. The place was very empty. The breakfast wasn't anything real special, we went to order and found out they were out of both Crab (multiple menu items) and corned beef. So we found something to order. Not really worth going out of your way for breakfast, maybe dinner is better.
(3)Thomas G.
Went for breakfast Sunday with the family and had a very pleasant experience. I had the greek skillet which was very well made , i love feta cheese and there was a large amount spread over the skillet . My daughter loved her cheese burger and everyone was pleased as well. We were seated immediately and our waiter greeted us promptly. The cheese fondue was amazing. Anyway overall a very nice meal and great service.

I would never come here again!! came here after a wedding and read the reviews before hand to know what to order. We had a big party, and the people that sat around me did not enjoy their food at all. my food was at least decent. I had the Monte Cristo sandwich, which had fruit as well, what kind of fruit you say...a little cup of strawberries that looked like they added sugar and let it ooze out. Kinda like what you would see on strawberry cheesecake, I would not consider that fruit. And as for the others, my mothers fettuchini had no flavor at all, after putting lots of salt and pepper when given to us. My fathers steak was well done when ordered medium rare and the bf had the veal parmigiana, and he regretted that as well. If you must come here, best bet is the sandwich, but please try not to come...its a waste of your time and money. The service was slow, we requested the bread to be warmed and the waiter/busser spoke back to us and said "the kitchen is busy and you want it warm" and I said yes warm it up. As i look around the room, we are the only party there...what other people was he talking about.. I recommend you never ever come here..service sucked and so did the food.

Arrived there with 2 other adults at 11am Saturday 10-30-2010 for a noon meal. Was seated after 5-10 minutes with apologies from the hostess as there was nobody else ahead of us. We were promptly served coffee, order taken, and waited...and waited...and waited for our meal. After almost an hour, the waitress apologized for our orders taking so long but pointed to a large party of 10-12 ahead of us. More waiting. After another 20 minutes or so, our food came. We had to request catsup and condiments for our potatoes. I shook the catsup to prepare it for pouring, and the cap flew off and catsup all over my lap. The waitress walked by, observed my catsup covered lap, listened to my displeasure to the experience, and walked away. Then I had to ASK for extra napkins to finish cleaning up! I told her to please tell the manager that this was a most unpleasant experience. In the end, no manager appeared to apologize or to offer any assistance. The waitress offered no help other than to bring another bottle of catsup. She tried to downplay the situation claiming that the cap was on tightly. What was I expecting? I would expect to be told that although we were seated and orders taken, that there was a large party ahead of us and that there would be a wait of an hour. That way my expectations would be adjusted to the reality of the situation. Instead, we were kept waiting for almost an hour when our patience had worn thin! And then, to have been offered minimal assistance after the catsup incident just shows a disregard and disrespect for a paying customer. This disrespect applies to the waitress as well as the manager on duty this morning. Starving by that time, I wolfed down my meal and left the restaurant as I was fuming. I hope whoever paid left no more than a one cent tip! The single star rating is for the food. It was OK.

New ownership....so sad! The place has gone downhill. It's too bad as we used to eat here quite a bit. Tried to give it another shot. 11:00am on a Sunday.....there was us and 1 other table! They never brought us water, food took forever, coffee cups never refilled....(my dad actually got up and refilled his own), the waitstaff stood around and chatted at the front desk, utensils were dirty, etc. I know that the Bold Knight was very popular.....what happened?....I hope the new owners make a lot of changes!!

Okay here it is.... My family and I went there on a Thursday night (5/10/2007) for an early mothers day dinner. Here is a breakdown of "our experience". Service: Despite all the other reviews on this board damming the Bold Knight service, we received excellent and speedy service. Admittedly, it was a slow night, but our waitress was on top of her game. Glasses were filled, and she checked on us often (but not bothersome). The Cheese Fondue: It was great. I would say it's a "must have" if you have dinner there. All the other appetizers are just okay, nothing great. For me the items did not taste freshly prepared. The Dolma however, was pretty darn good. Food: I had the pork chops (just felt like it), and they were just okay. They were grilled, but the flavor was just okay. Oddly they were partially dry (overcooked) in some areas, but juicy in others. Hey it's pork, and I understand just how hard it is to make it right, but they were certainly not great. I have had better elsewhere. I would not order them there again. Both of my brothers had the Prime Rib. I tasted them both. Really, I would say their prime rib is below okay. the presentation was plain, the cuts were on the small side (even though they order the bigger cuts), the taste was lacking. There was certainly no WOW effect. I will only say this once. If you want an excellent piece of Prime Rib, the only great place in the Bay Area is The House of Prime Rib in San Francisco, period - end of story. Anything less is a sell-out. Disappointed for a "quote" steak-house type of place. My mother had a seafood dish (the baby lobster tails). As per her report, the seafood was just okay. She stated that the Fish Market (chain restaurant) has better seafood all together. She stated that she would not go back there for the seafood. The atmosphere: I thought it was nice. Certainly much better then the dumpy old place. The owners (which were present), were courteous and nice. The place was clean. Again, I liked the atmosphere. There was an eleavator to go downstairs (to go to the restroom). This is nice if yu are planning to take an elderly person out (such as the case with us). The dinner salads: In my opinion, just okay. we all ordered our with blue cheese. The salads came with nice crumpled blue cheese on top of the salad, which was great, but the lettuce mixture was just okay. In my opinion, the salads "appeared" to be pre-made and in turn were not fresh and snappy. All in all, I would give it a 5, on a scale of 1 to 10. The prices are not crazy expensive, so I factored that into my scoring. As always, this is just my opinion of the place on that given night.

The absolute worst experience I have ever had. We literally waited an hour for our food! Our drinks were never brought to us. We had to ask the hostess for them because our waitress disappeared after taking our order. After 45 mins at our request, because we were then starving, they brought out some bread and butter. Then our waitress showed up and let us know just a few more minutes. Yeah 15 more minutes. We got a soggy waffle, a sandwich that should have been on a french roll served on white bread and under cooked fries. I really don't know how they stay in business!! Just an awful experience....

So, my honey and I used to go to the first Bold Knight (on Monterey Rd.) for each and every special event and we would always tell our friends about the place too, because the food and atmosphere was so great! I was brought to Bold Knight many times as a child, with my parents. Anyhow, we were sad to see it close down. Well, fast forward to the day before Valentine's Day 2010....my honey found that they had opened this place again at a different location, and surprised me with dinner reservations. He planned it the day before Valentine's Day, because he knows I am not a fan of crowded places, with long waits, and crappy service, which is how it is on holidays! Anyhow, the parking lot was very crowded, so valet parked our vehicle (complimentary to our surprise!) Our reservation was for 7:30 and we got right in after only waiting a few short minutes. We had a nice table by a window, which was perfect. We quickly ordered our drinks and a few appetizers. We ordered the fondue, which was pretty good. I don't care what kind of cheese it was, because cheese and bread are just plain good : ) Then we had the crab cakes, which I highly recommend! They were sooooo good! I have crab cakes all the time since they are my favorite,so I know good crab cakes....plus, most places give only two, and we got 6, so we were very happy I must say! My honey also had a caesar salad, which I took a few bites of, and it was very good! For our meals, we each had the steak and lobster. He had prime rib, and I had filet mignon, plus a baked potato with the works. My filet mignon was cooked to perfection, and was very soft! I rarely eat steak of any sort, so this was a nice treat. My honey liked the prime rib, but said it lacked flavor, (he doesn't like horseradish), so he used some steak sauce instead. The lobster was great, only complaint is that the drawn butter was a little too salty, but still good enough to eat! We were planning on dessert, but were so very full and literally couldn't eat another bite! Bottom line, food was great. Service was ok, but our waitress didn't have much of a personality, and it took forever to get our check when we were done. As for the decor, it was nice, but I miss the high back booths and dim lighting of the previous Bold Knight. This place is small, so the tables are very close, so no real privacy or romantic setting like the previous Bold Knight. Would we return again, absolutely! The crab cakes alone are worth the visit! Drinks: 2 mixed drinks and a hot tea Appetizers: salad, crab cakes, fondue Meals: Lobster and prime rib Lobster and filet mignon Total: $ 160.00

Good fondue people? Really? Really really? It was cheez whiz. The bread to dip it was good, but the fondue was cheez whiz. Can't get over it. I thought a few people that mentioned that were over criticizing, nope. The fishermans platter was ok, nothing special. Wish I would have tried something else. The waiter was great...... really good service.

As I had never been to the original Bold Knight I had no idea what to expect. The facilities are nice, which made me think that I might be in for an expensive breakfast. However, the prices were very reasonable. I had recently eaten at the Cardinal Lounge and I believe that the Bold Knight has better prices an quality. We took advantage of the free bellini and fried donught-like items and had a filling, but not overboard breakfast. Our server was professional and courteous. The menu has lots of offerings, so we'll be back to try something new.

Bold Knight is a fine looking restaurant with many hit-and-miss options for breakfast. The Maserati omelette is good, and so is the Belgian waffle and sausage, which comes with eggs, though the menu doesn't say so. The food is pretty heavy stuff though; it tends to sit like a lump in the stomach. They offer free Bloody Marys or mimosas with breakfast if that's your thing, and the staff (except on one occasion) is very attentive. Maybe too attentive: you wind up being seated by one person, served by another, served coffee by another, and your welfare checked upon by another. The interior is pretty nice, and a really nice original painting covers one huge wall. There's also what looks like a cozy bar in back with a big screen TV. Prices are good, all things considered. I probably wouldn't become a regular, but could certainly understand people who are. There's plenty of parking in their own lot (valet service on weekends), and the restaurant is located right next to the Civic Center light rail station (and its attendant bus stops), so if public transportation is your thing, you can hop off, walk a few feet, and you're there. Two and a half stars, really.

One star for the bread! It was...bread. Other than that....well, the items on the menu did not look a thing like the items on my plate. I ordered the london broil for lunch. I got shriveled up old shoe london BOIL..a tiny portion, but that was fine. A huge blob of mashed potatoes topped with what appeared to be shredded plastic. I asked the waiter about the plastic and he said it was "dried milk". I didn't eat the mashed potatoes. Cold undercooked flavorless zucheeni and carrots....I'd much rather dine out of my own brown bag.

Janet introduced me to this place back when i was first getting acquainted with her neighborhood. this is a nice place to have breakfast, or brunch if you're recovering from a rough night). Very relaxing, clean, and quiet environment. Big step up from IHOP or Dennys. The omlettes I've had here were great and very filling- I don't think I was even close to finishing all of it the last time I came.

Had a really good Prime Rib lunch a couple days ago...check it out

My family has been coming here for as long as I can remember (back in the day when they were on Monterey Hwy) and I could never get enough of the cheese fondue, I don't care that my husband insist it's Velveeta, I love it dammit! The waiters are rude but who cares, I think it adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. The food is so yummy. I usually get either steak or chicken teriyaki. Perfect baked papas (yes you can mess those up) and the rice is always nice and fluffy.

Ahh the Bold.. I love the Bold. How can you not love their 5 dollar dinnertime endless fondue? The sweet and attentive waitresses? All of my experiences at the Bold Knight have been pretty good. My absolute favorite dish is their Ceasar of Troy Salad. As Elaine Bennis would of said this is a "BIG SALAD." You're choice of either chicken or shrimp skewers on top. Now, the reason why only 4 stars is because I always order the BIG SALAD so I am unsure as to the quality of the other entrees. Oh, bonus. They usually have a bottle of awesome Chianti by the glass...

I liked the food I got from Bold Knight, I really did. I completely agree with the person who said the service was atrocious. We went on the weekend and weren't given a bloody mary even when many other patrons were. I guess their favoritism didnt include my friend and me. The waiter seemed not just unattentive, but to harbor a genuine grudge against us. I have no idea why, we weren't anything but polite. Oh, and toward the end of the mean someone sitting next to me decided to butt in to our conversation. This was the conversation: Me: "I think the fatal flaw was that the democrats underestimated the Bush campaign. They assumed Americans would not vote for him because they thought he was stupid, but a lot of people voted for him because they were sympathetic to the "intellectual bullying" he got from Kerry. The campaign was a lot smarter than people thought. Idiot next to me: You're wrong. Bush is an idiot, a C student, and a war criminal! You'll find garden-variety idiots as patrons and servers with a vendetta at Bold Knight. With so many choices in San Jose, why would you go here?
(2)jennifer y.
worst service ever. i'm sorry, but you don't serve fondue with velveeta / american or whatever the heck that was. i understand if you're trying to break away from the traditional and the mold, but c'mon, STALE chunks of bread to be dipped in harsh so-salty-it-scratches-the-throat cheese is not cool. and the spinach salad was topped off with what seemed to be strawberry jam dressing with a minor dash of balsamic. ungh uh nooo. not with bacon bits and boiled egg! you just don't do that. the whole place just turned me off, so much it inspired me to return to yelp to say that this place is awful. i was hoping it'd be one of those charming old school restaurants with homey comfortable service and dependable food, but it ain't. our waiter was so bad and absent-minded. don't matter how slammed you are, you gotta take care of every single customer. the only redeeming factor was that this sweet woman -- maybe part of the family? -- stepped in and rescued us.

I see mixed reviews with this restaurant , and I am not sure what to think of when someone rated them a 4 or 5 star. The only thing that deserves a 5 star is the guy that refills your coffee- I must have seen him coming by our table at least 6 times! Can't rate the same about the quality of the coffee though, but you can't expect much from restaurant coffee. Anyway, this was a Fathers Days breakfast with my in laws. The last time we were here for Mothers Day we encountered the same problems, but gave it a second chance because they were the new owners. The waiter was wet behind the ears and did not know how to act like a waiter -didn't introduce himself, didn't smile, and having trouble taking orders, and bring out wrong plate for wrong person. Not to mention how long it takes for the food to come out! When it finally came out, my Crab Cake Egg Benedict looked dried and unattractive like it's been sitting there while the other 9 dishes were being prepared. The taste was as bland as the way it looked, and I stopped eating because I couldn't waste my calorie input on such bad food. I never wanted to come here because there are plenty of great restaurants in the area, but it was my in law's choice. I am happy to hear them say that they'll never eat here again.

Sad and Bad - unbelievably so! This is not the Bold Knight of old days on Monterey Hwy. I understand that since it's move, the son took over, and now they have sold it. The new owners are a partnership, I'm told, and I recommend to them to get into the restaurant and watch what's going on. I took a friend there for his b'day lunch on a Sunday. What occurred has to be among the most ridiculous experiences I've ever had in a restaurant. It was 1pm on a Sunday and the restaurant had maybe a dozen patrons in it, so there was no reason for such poor service. Our waiter was either hungover, drunk, drugged, insane, or just plain untrained! He took our drink order and wandered away. When he finally came back, we said we wanted breakfast, so he wandered away to get the breakfast menus. In a short while he came back and took our order. He then wandered away. Finally he brought our drinks and asked us if we wanted bread and a salad - we said, no we are having breakfast. Time passed, and passed. The waiter finally came back and asked if we wanted to see the desserts. We said, no we haven't had our breakfast yet. The waiter wandered away and later came back - with the check! I handed it back to him and told him, take this away and don't bring it back until after we have had our meal. We called another waiter and asked where our meal was - at that time, our waiter wandered out with our plates. I had one plate stacked on the other (bottom of the plate touching the top of the food on the second plate) and only switched them to one in each hand when he saw me glance at him. He set them down. I had asked for eggs medium, my friend for eggs over easy. They were both runny - that means over easy. My medium bacon was so crisp that it crumbled when you snapped it. I asked for medium bacon. The waiter wandered into the kitchen and came back with a small plate so he could take away my dry bacon. He came back in a while (by the time I finished my runny eggs) with medium to dry bacon. I asked where is the toast - you need toast with these runny eggs. He wandered away. The bacon was so salty that I could not eat it. Our waiter wandered back with 2 plates of very dry and very cold toast. No butter, just a single package of cheap welch's grape jelly on top of the toast. My friend had to scrape the black of his toast, he remarked "just like home when I burn it..." I called to a waiter who looked more experienced (there were 2 wearing white shirts and ties, while the other drones were wearing black shirts). I told him what had occurred and he blissfully smiled and said oh, I'm sorry about that. I pointed out the ash from the toast, and he said, oh I was making toast for myself but when they said an order was in, I let you have mine! Good grief. There was no care and no check adjustment. Hence, I left NO tip. By the way, don't let them seat you near the kitchen galley where you can see them going in or standing behind the doors. I observed a female waiter cleaning her ears with her finger. Just epitomizes the quality of this "wait staff" and the absolutlely ricidulous, bizarre, unsanitary, and awful experience of eating at the 'new' Bold Knight! Ugh.

Just got back from breakfast at the BK, it was fine. We were nervous based on all the bad reviews on Yelp, but we live within walking distance, so we took a chance. Our server was super attentive, as was everybody else. We had pancakes, steak and eggs, and it was pretty good. We will go back for sure...

Wow how times have changed. Went to the Bold Knight during the week, thinking it would be less crowded and I would receive better service. Boy was I wrong. Sat in the bar area, so that I could watch one of the Sharks playoff games. With only three other tables occupied in the bar, I would have thought the service would be prompt and friendly. Not the case. Took me nearly 10 min to get water, let alone the wine I ordered. Another disappointing thing was they don't service prime rib during the week? I thought that is what they are known for. On top of that, that were out several other items on the dinner menu. Complete disappointment and waste of time. I ended up having a very sub-par dinner that cost me over 100.00 not including tip, which I even debated on leaving. Highlight the evening was seeing a few of the City of San Jose's counsel members at the bar, drinking with what appeared to be the manager of the restaurant. They were tanked up, talking very loud, didnt pay their bill and then watched two of them jump into their High end cars and race off into the night. That why I was not surprised when another City official got a DUI just a few weeks later....Find another place to eat. I wouldn't take my worst enemy there

This place was not good at all. Went there with a group of 15 for a B-day party. I thought it was extremely over priced. I got the Fried Shrimp and payed 18.95 for 6 shrimp and a baked potato. I don't mind paying that much for food but, I want more food for 18.95. The service was good for even having a group that big. But, the food choices were not all that good. For being a traditional american place, they could of had some better choices.

I have been wanting to go to this place for a long time. The food was very good but it was so COLD in the building. The hostess was wearing a jacket. I dont think they have a heater. Sad because it was to be a good experience. Service good - food good but call to see the temparture or go in the summer~
(2)Sarah G.
this place is walking distance from my house so i hear the happy hour is good but i've never been -only ever been for dinner. Dinner is good -i always get the prime rib. The ambiance is good as well but it's such a mix of people either dressed up for fancy bday dinner or others in jeans so i get a little confused...and yeah i miss the one at the old location...
(3)Nicole A.
I don't get all the bad reviews? Yeah it's not as cool as the old location, but for what it is, it's really good. Food is consistently tasty, fondue is obviously delicious, and there are always gift certificates on restaurants.com , so it is soo cheap. I also like how the waiters are always friendly. I've been here for dinner and lunch, both are good...and after reading this page I want to try breakfast lol.
(4)Leza D.
Went to breakfast and it was very tasty. They have complimentary Bloody Mary's, which of course I had!! It was really well made. I ordered a Mexican skillet. It was really good and the prices are really reasonable. The portion was HUGE. I would suggest it for breakfast, I've heard it's just ok for dinner though and more on the pricey side. Ther service and atmosphere was average. Our waitress was really nice, the hostess was eh...ok.

I have been here several times, mostly last year 2010 for work lunches. The service and food then were good, and it was a great place for work lunches. BUT... I do not know what's changed. I went with some friends on new years eve day for lunch, the service was horrible. The hostess or lack of one could not be bothered, the server was MIA most of the time, we got most of our service from the busser who was The ONLY great think that day. Lets start with waiting 15 minutes for a menu and water, I ordered Cheese bread... Never came.. :( But that's not the worse, My friend ordered a filet mignon med. rare, it came fully over cooked and dry, our other fiends chicken tough, dry and not seasoned, my steak sandwich witch I asked for no onions came with more onions than steak and seeing how it was suppose to be a panini, the cheese was not melted and the bread was not even toasted, the kids burger came out ok, but another person got a chicken parmesan without the Parmesan and cold! We asked for a manager, when he finally came our friend told him of the issues and said only he and his girlfriend would like to send there food back, and since the rest of us ate our not so perfect lunches out of starvation they did not feel like waiting for another order to come out. The manager yelled "What do you want me to do Buy your lunches" He was very rude and had a smart ass attitude. My friend said well I'm not paying for 2 meals that you did not cook properly and that we only took one bite of. The manager and our fiend went on auguring for a few minutes until he finally decided to take off there orders. I stayed away for a while but yesterday was my brother in laws B-day and he wanted Cheese fondue, so here we go again. We tried not to judge and give it another go... But this time same thing, the hostess could not be bothered to seat us she was busy standing and I don't think she was able to multi task standing, talking and seating someone at the same time. Our server was ok she at least checked up on us, we ordered the cheese fondue but did not get the bread cubed like everyone else, nope we got slices and not skewers either.. But that was the least of our problems to come. We ordered the rib eyes all around and I think there chef needs a lesson on what is Rare, med and well done. Me and my hunny ordered med well, mine was right his was still mooing, my nephew and my brother in law ordered med Rare, one came ok and the other not so ok... Eww.. So we kindly asked for it to be cooked a bit more. The rest of us were almost done before his came back out. Also the veggies that come with the meal Carrots and Broccoli were mostly raw, cold and drowned in butter... Pretty Gross.. But still not the worst.. The worst part was when my nephew had his spoon in his mouth and said Eww who has coffee?, we all said no one and he said smell my spoon, and yes it smelled like straight coffee with a little hard residue on it. We than started noticing most of our silverware was dirty.! We finished our dinner in disgust and ordered some spumoni, to find that the residue/coffee spoon ended up back in the bowl after it was removed from our table. WTF when is it ok to ever reuse a dirty spoon on a new plate sent to the same table.. IN the end it has been decided that we will NEVER EVER EVER go there again! EVER.. Kind of sucks for them because our family consists of 12 people. MESSAGE to the Owner, REALLY GET IT TOGHTER, YOUR SERVICE, FOOD AND CLENESSES ALL ARE IN NEED OF A COMPLETE MAKEOVER. DO NOT GO HERE EVER UNLESS YOUR WILLING TO PAY FOR DISGUSTING FOOD, HORRIBALE SERVICE AND DIRTY SILVERWARE. BETTER OFF AT DENNYS.!

Went to a fund raiser for our schools music dept. There did not appear to be any manager on site. The A/C wasn't working and it was 80+ degrees inside no this already very hot day. No water offered to any tables, (over 150 people). Had to go to the bar to get it ourselves . The buffet food was like hamburger helper. Chicken Picatta and Beef Stroganoff that tasted like rubber. The slices of french bread were dry like they were cut the day before, (could have been the 80 degree heat I guess). The salad was the only thing worth eating because it was nice and COLD! No Dessert offered. There were 2 bartenders, but only 1 bar POS terminal. Really slow to ring up the orders. Took about 12 keystrokes to ring up a beer. Typical for an Aloha system. The restroom looked like it had not seen a Mop in several months. Really dirty and gross. 20 minutes before the event was over, the waiter (who was very nice btw), came and asked ME if I knew how to operate the A/C. He had 2 A/C units turned up to 80 degrees, with the fan set to ON instead of AUTO. In other words, the 80+ degree outside air was constantly being pulled into the restaurant for the last 2 hours. OMG... Wish I had a single good thing to day about this place, but I really don't. We'll never go back.
(1)Lisa L.
A huge disappointment! I used to go to the old Bold Knight and so I had high hopes. We went for breakfast so I can't judge dinner, but based on our experience we won't be back. Our food arrived very cold and nothing was particularly tasty. It was average at best. Too bad. . .this place used to be great.
(2)Bruce C.
The "Two Kings" meal is GREAT! A nice juicy Fillet and Alaskan Lobster Tail... well worth the $59.99 I paid. We really enjoyed the Fondue as well. I have been there for lunch as well and the menu has a lot of great, fairly priced choices. A group of six went and all agreed the food was great and the portions were generous. Being said that the food is great, the service lacks and is the only reason I did not give them the fourth star they probably deserve. I was not impressed with the wait staff on any of my three visits thus far. At least the manager is on the ball and makes up for the lacking personalities and work ethics of most his staff.

This place was a total let down. Although this review is written long over due I just can't get over how bad this place was. My family went there for Father Day dinner so you would expect slightly better service than usual but it never happened. In fact Carl's Jr. has with better service and that's just sad cause I'm only asking them for more ketchup. Parking was done by valet parking only because their parking lot is so small that people would not be able to leave because their car would be blocked in by another layer of cars. So add the valet tip to everything else that you have to pay for. We ordered calamari for an appetizer which was so so but it didn't come with any marinara sauce. In fact we ordered another appetizer there that did come with sauce and we ended up using that as dipping sauce. I ordered a fillet mignon which wasn't cooked medium, it looked to be more medium well/well done area. Our waitress really wasn't interested in serving us but just the fact that it took over 35 minutes to get out the main dishes one would think that your server would come back to check and see if you needed a refill or something. Even when the food finally came out our server was about to walk away and I had to ask for a refill. That's sort of like a pet peeve I have at restaurants that I shouldn't have to ask the server for a refill. You don't earn your tip just beacause you bring out food. I don't think I even finished my meal because I was so put off by how crappy their meat was in fact on the drive home I stopped by McDonalds which was my savior meal after that place. Some people might think this place is good but this one and only time, on Father's Day makes me believe that they just don't a s*** about the people who eat there.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE SUNDAY BRUNCH RESTUARANTS. They give you a complimentary mimosa on Sunday. Just come to bold knight instead of dennys or IHOP. You'll get mush better food and services without the hassle of long lines and the price is very resonable.

My husband and I were coming here so often we had to take a break. I'll start off by saying Jose is the best server!! He is the epitome of customer service. Their breakfasts are huge and very reasonably priced. If we're there for breakfast I'll usually get bacon with my meal & unfortunately I must say it doesn't always seem fresh (kind of cold & seems to have been sitting out for awhile). The sausages are enormous. The last time we had breakfast during a weekday and we were literally the only people in there so I was kind of confused as to why my sausage wasn't hot, it was room temperature. Those are my only complaints. My husband likes to get the cheese fondue and we love the steak and prawns.

This is a look on the bold knight on a more casual view. I used to go to this place every friday, off my shift from work, kick back some drinks, share a platter and share some conversation with whomever i'm with. There used to be a bartender there, I believe it was dennis, great bartender. He always made up drinks for me including one called the "flirtini" because he swore a couple of them would get me flirting. The new bartender does seem to be nice, it looks to be that she has some regulars, so dont be afraid to make conversation. Drinks are not watered down i'll tell you that. I had a good buzz going on after two of them. Times I went there the food always worked out for me. Pasta stuffed with mushrooms, nothing totally extraordinary. But it was good for what it was. Steak croissant was actually really good. I held myself back though for the fact a buttery croissant + steak = muffin toppin over my jeans. I enjoy the reuben also. Make sure saurkraut side is up as to not get your bread to wet. It certainly is a great place to relax. The bar area includes a good amount of tables so friends dont have to sit side by side at the bar. I've never dined there in an evening which is causing me from giving it five stars because I think its best to have a sit down dinner before going gung-ho thumbs up. That and the bathroom is downstairs. They do have an elevator, but i'd feel stupid to use the elevator just because of the laziness of walking down stairs.

WOW, I just got home from dinner at the Bold Knight what a disappointment We had been looking forward to being re-acquainted with this place when we just recently found out the restaurant had re-opened we were long time patrons of this restaurant when it was located on Monterey Rd. This time around though the service was really bad and I can be forgiving of a lack of service on a busy Saturday night if the food is good but it was not my steak had so much grit on it, the Cesar salad was not only bad but the portion seemed like it was being rationed the simple dinner salad with blue cheese dressing laked any flavor the scallops where over cooked. I really wanted to like this place for nostalgia sake but this was truly nothing to like even the parking was bad they have valet parking which by the way was what we got to watch all the time we where there because of where we were seated. so sad but at least now we know.

Great food and service. Comfortable atmosphere. We'll be back!

Our annual managers holiday lunch was held at Bold Knight Bistro. When we signed up for lunch (voluntary), everyone had 4 options to choose from (shrimp, pasta, chicken, and steak) all of which comes with a soft drink and coffee for $25 including tip. I chose the steak which came with sides of mashed potates and steamed vegetables. It's simple enough that not many restaurants can even do this right. If another work function was held here again I would definitely volunteer to attend any time even if I had to pay for the good food.

We are strong believers in breakfast, my boyfriend and I. We live for going out to breakfast on the weekends but we usually like to stay local. So my boyfriends mom kept raving about this place & she comes to, to have breakfast/brunch here on the weekends. We finally decided to meet her there this past Sunday. Off we went to San Jose with our son who's 10. I was a little excited to go have breakfast somewhere out of our usual realm & especially Bold Knight. I think the last time I had Bold Knight was about 12 years ago at the old spot and it was pretty darn good from what I recall. As we drove into the parking lot we were told by the valet that it was full but he nicely recommended the empty lot next door at the credit union.FYI....They do have free valet parking. We thought it would be OK to park in the bank lot since it was Sunday and we were not interfering with the bank patrons. I'm not sure what they do about parking during the week. ?? As we walked in we were greeted by the nice man at the door, who I later found out is the actual owner. We took a right to the bar because they have 2 flat screen TV's and UNC was playing at 10am, we had to watch it's "March Madness"!! AS I walked in the bar area I'm noticing the bar itself as well as the floor and the decor. VERY VERY Nice. **We sat down and ordered drinks right away. I heard the Bloody Mary's were free but not on Sunday's just Sat's...Only the peach Bellini's are free on both days. The Bloody Mary's are awesome!! Too bad I heard the bartender was leaving....so sad. After our drinks arrived, our nice waitress brought out the loukoumades which are free too. Very warm doughy donut like things. They almost resemble donut holes but so much better. They kinda taste like Churros & my son loved them. As I glanced at the menu, I was impressed with the prices. I was expecting an overpriced menu but it was pretty reasonable. I had the pork chops (2) with 2 eggs and hash browns. A nice serving at around $8. Not bad. My boyfriend had sausage & eggs w/ a side of biscuits and gravy. The sausage is very good & tastes homemade, Very Snappy too (when bitten). We were very pleased with our meal and with the outcome of the UNC game! We will definitely be back for more. Maybe Dinner!!

We ate at the Bold Knight last night and it was interesting. The food was good but the service and the way the restaurant were run has a lot to be desired. We ordered a bottle of wine and when it was brought to the table the server told us the name and then proceeded to fill four wine glasses almost to the top. I guess she figured we didn't need to taste. There were a few more minor serving glitches but the restroom situation was insane. The restrooms are in the basement. There was a birthday party going on in a private room down there. A camera booth and a few tables were setup in the hall to the restrooms. There were many people gathered in that area and they were not happy about moving to let people get to the restrooms. I can't imagine experienced restaurant manager setting up that situation. As we walked out the door there was a man relieving himself in the parking lot. Guess he couldn't get through the crowd to the bathroom. Not sure we'll go back there.

Bold Knight Bistro is an exceptional local spot! Unlike chain restaurants, Bold Knight Bistro is family owned, so the care that the owners put in preparing the food is evident to the customers. I choose the Bistro for many of my outings. Each hour - breakfast, lunch, dinner, and happy hour :) - offers a different selection of delicious dishes, but the one thing that remains constant is the hospitality of the staff and the welcoming feeling of the restaurant. The bartender makes me laugh, the hostess has a welcoming smile and the manager is always attentive to his customers and to the restaurant's needs. The atmosphere of the restaurant is inviting. The space is open and the decoration is simple and elegant. The food always meets my expectations; the stakes are juicy, the salads are crispy, and the fondue is filled with flavor. If you visit the Bistro, bring your appetite. The restaurant is also an ideal spot for banquets or company parties. I have attended a birthday party there, and I was pleased with the arrangements, the pricing, and the food selection. Why go elsewhere when we have such a wonderful local spot in the heart of San Jose!

hey! i don't remember seeing the "Two Kings" dinner! now i'm wondering if that was a special or if i'm just blind... that sounds good! i'm gonna have to look for that next time! a friend of mine told me, "you should try the bold knight bistro, their steaks are good!" so... carne it was for me... came here last night for dinner... it was a lot fancier than i imagined it to be for a "bistro"... but it was still friendly and inviting. it was actually a very casual type place, but when you first walk it, it just looks classy. cheese fondue was good. it was gooey and oooey and the cheese was very cheesy. had the crab cakes as a starter. no offense, but it was dry and a little tasteless. i won't order that again. i had the rib eye. it was not very seasoned, but it was damn tender and cooked to perfection. it was juicy, moist, and tender. the dinner companion had the filet. that was a hit! it cut like butter and was just like my rib eye... tender, juicy, moist... it was great. the steaks came with a choice of baked potato, housemade mashed potatoes or rice... and veggies (asparagus)... if you wanted a side dinner salad it was an extra $1.95. i can't say it's better than ruth's chris. but it is a lot better quality than outback.

The service was terrible. The waitress was rude, unfriendly and argumentative. The food was just okay - It has definitely gone down hill! Sometimes change is not for the better!
(2)Vincent K.
The happy hour seems really good althought I missed it by 2 minutes. However, i went on a monday night and had the special which was new york steak and lobster. the lobster seemed good, but the steak was a little bit dry. However, it came with a salad and baked potato all for only $20 which i think is really good for that amount.

This is the new location for the Bold Knight. We live in the area so we received a flyer in the mail that had their breakfast menu. Free bloody mary's or peach bellini's on weekends....we are THERE! Their breakfast was actually really good. Nice big portions and so much better than what you can get elsewhere. My boytoy ordered the pork chop & eggs and they gave him two thick perfectly cooked chops with a side hashed browns, toasts, and eggs. Ooooh it was tasty because it had a nice grilled taste to it. I couldn't make up my mind because everything looked so good that I ordered something called The Ranchhand. It had 2 eggs, 2 bacons, 2 sausages, 2 country styled biscuits, and hashed browns. The potatoes were really yummy because they were cooked perfectly...soft and creamy on the inside and crisp on the outside. The biscuits and gravy were pretty good too because it was made with their own country sausage. The super nice bartender told me that if I could eat it all, they would take my picture, put it on the wall, and he would give me a free drink. Score! Alas....my eyes were bigger than my belly. Couldn't do it. I might try again though. I can't vouch for their dinners or lunch but they have a nice martini hour with half priced appetizers. OH!!!! They also give free loukoumades which are these freshly fried greek donuts soaked in honey. Fried...need I say more?
(4)Niki M.
didn't know what to expect by name alone but the minute i heard they served homemade sausage i was sold! mmm...pork. brunched here today with colleagues and was pleasantly surprised. the decor is modernized coffee shop/diner. my hunch is that it's greek owned tho i can't fully attest to that. i tried the country sausage which was fabo. they also serve up a tasty homemade yogurt with walnuts & honey..which looked grand. the menu offered the usual breakfast onslaught of omelettes, skillets & the like. had to dock a star cuz the service was pretty damn slow. drink orders took a good 10 minutes. the food followed a good 20 minutes later! slooooooooooow.
(3)Guy I.
Good service and a very comfortable atmosphere, I sat at the table nearest the kitchen and it was still comfortable. The food is good, though not as unique as I remember from years past. DO NOT ORDER THE FONDUE. I'm pretty sure it was nacho cheese from the party isle at safeway and stale white bread.
(4)Russell C.
We always have great waiters and food here at the bold knight. There great and there prime rib exellent. There staff is caring and wonderful a pleasure to eat here
(5)Stephen T.
Bad food. Worse service. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone for dinner. I hear it's a lot better at lunch though.
(1)Tina B.
This place is pretty good. It's a nice place and the prices are reasonable. We couldn't believe how cheap the fondue was. It's also a good breakfast place.
(3)Eddie R.
This restaurant is quite nice ! The decor is very cool and although they should lose the neon sign on the window it's a very nicely furnished restaurant. I ordered the House Steak and Crab cakes. Crab cakes were decent nothing too spectacular. But the steak was awesome cooked just as I ordered and a very generous cut. Would definitely come back here again! Only reason I docked one star was because the wait staff could do a better job when they seat you. The guy that took me to my table asked if I would like water. Never saw him again then the waitress showed up but after a almost 10 minute wait. After that though she was very attentive and checked up on me frequently.
(4)Sergio R.
Ever since it changed from Casa Lupe to El Maestro aka The Teacher is such an improvement, Alma is so nice and pays the right amount of attention. The food is so much better, great presentation and most important the food taste great so next time your in the south side of San Jose you NEED to pass by and have something to eat again food taste amazing.

Came here on a Thanksgiving day because we were leaving for vacation that day. They had a fancy Thanksgiving buffet and we enjoyed it. It was a bit on a pricy side though ($30 ea). The servers were attentive and friendly.

Wow....where do I start. There was a VERY loud bad live band playing and it looked like a senior event. We were seated and our waitress was nice but where in the world was she hanging out because it took forever between our visits. She took our order and told us it would take about 15 to 20 minutes. So 45 minutes later we got our food and the N.Y. steaks were tough. I finally told her that the music needed to be turned down because it was loud, we had to talk too loud and the band WAS HORRIBLE. After we finished dinner it took 20 minutes to get our check. We had to stand at the hostess counter to get our check and to see the bill was 145.00 for 5 of us and it was NOT worth it at all. We will not be returning.

This place is aweful! Don't even spend the money on the groupon because you won't get half of your money's worth. We ordered a rib eye medium rare, they served us a New York medium well! They would not admit they made a mistake. The waiter said he asked the chef and he said it was right (so the waiter knew they made a mistake too). We didn't want to send it back for fear of spitting in our food (clearly a place that would do that). They tried to explain it away, but we know our cuts of meat and the two are clearly different. They brought the potato loaded without asking how we want it. Overall...horrible. If I could give 0 stars I would.
(1)Anya L.
I bought a Groupon without checking reviews. Right before I want to use it I check the reviews and they seems pretty bad. I was worried because I was going to take my parents out and I was afraid the lousy food would ruin the night. To my relief the food are fine. And the servant were very friendly. My parents seem enjoy the night out very much. I would say it is a decent restaurant.

As I sit here staring at my sad little pile of noodles, lacking any kind of flavor next to this tough chicken breast which probably came from a 75 yr old bird, i start to question things in my life. How can you mess up plain noodles? Soggy, sauce no flavor... chicken has a terriblr aftertaste akin to a microwave. I dont understand. Im not a good cook but even i could outdo this. The other 3 people in my party disliked their meals, noting it lacked any flavor, meat was tougb, etc. Service has been awful. I went here against my better judgement, even after the terrible yelp review. Next time, I'll heed the warnings....

I came here at 7pm with my family of 3 last night . Our server was sweet but the food took forever..... we waited for our bread and butter for 1 hr... and another 30 minutes for our food to come out... when we pulled up to the parking lot there was about only 5 cars.... when i came inside there was about 3 tables? So many im guessing 1 cook and 2 servers thats why the food took so long? Anyways the food was good but i dont think id come back if i have to spend 2 hours total for dinner with my 3 year old that cannot sit still...
(2)Sioux K.
Worst breakfast ever! The only redeeming quality was the ice water. Never will I come back - ever
(1)Jessica M.
WORST buffet I've ever been too. We got here at 12 and the buffet ends at 2pm. Reasonable time right? Wrong- the waitress told us that they would be restocking the buffet so we go get some plates and try the little bit of certain foods that were already there. Like stale potatoes, cold pancakes, 2 eggs, cold sausage, and some funky pasta. 30 minute later- they told us there was no more bacon and eggs and menudo and they weren't refilling. It was barely 12:45pm! . We still had to pay for our plates (14.95). Would NOT recommend this buffet. Food is not good.

Love San Jose / Hate San Jose What can we say about the supposed capital of Silicon Valley? While we're at it, what is Silicon Valley anyway? Or more precisely, what does it meant to live in Silicon Valley? That's why were here. In what is regarded as an institution and if you know me, I loves me my institutions, the Bold Knight was a regular pit stop for city hall and county workers. Shuttered for a little bit and re-opened, the Bold Knight is looking to reclaim some of its former glory. And that's how I found myself here with the fam bam celebrating Mother's Day. An unremarkable facade does the inside no justice. The bar and dining area is a bit worn around the edges, but functional. Same goes for the buffet. Pretty standard fare although I found the offering of fondue and already made cheese omlettes bewildering. Lettuce leaves in the salad looked like they had better days and the lamb shank was tough and made for some tricky eating. Everything else were the usual brunch suspects...scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, waffles, chicken, breaded shrimp, salmon, sting beans, cut up melon, yada, yada, yada and cupcakes for you hipster foodies. It was disappointment to run out of the primerib although the sliced pieces from the kitchen seemed a little suspect. Ham was still there when I looked. While happily scarfing down my 3rd plate of food, I couldn't help to think that newly minted mayor, Sam Liccardo would pop in and sit a spell. Because this is Silicon Valley too. Looking around the dining room, that Silicon Valley isn't just young techies or mogul entrepreneurs..its everyday people. This where Bold Knight delivers...decent food, good price and a nice place to enjoy it in. All in all, not a bad day for Moms.

To be completely honest, my girlfriend and I walked out without ever eating dinner, if that's a hint as to how bad...or, should I say HORRIBLE...everything was. Let me jump back several years. Since The Bold Knight opened at 840 N. First Street, I had been wanting to try it, and, at that point in time, living only a few blocks away, one would have thought I'd have tried it by now...but I never got around to it. Moving forward 8-10 years, my girlfriend, who had been to the Monterey Road location many times, before it closed, constantly raved about how delicious the food was. When I saw a Groupon deal ($29, for $50 worth of dining credit) a couple months ago, I figured, "Now is the time." Of course, we were unaware that the restaurant was "under new management". Unfortunately, that doesn't tell the whole story, as The Bold Knight isn't just under new management, but new ownership. Nevertheless, we still wanted to go - my girlfriend, to see if the food was still just as good; myself to finally try it, and compare their prime rib against The House of Prime Rib, and the fondue against Matterhorn (both in San Francisco). As you will discover, calling either of these two items by their given names would be like calling a McDonald's hamburger "the best burger in the world". Starting with appetizers, we ordered their "famous" cheese fondue, as well as the fried calamari. The fondue looked, and (even worse) tasted, as if they had taken a can of nacho cheese sauce, shaved in some Gouda to disguise the flavor, and added a little wine to it, before heating it up. The way they serve it was a joke, as they keep it "heated" by placing the bowl above a tiny tea candle, which stayed lit for less than 10 minutes. Moving onto the calamari, while it was extremely tender, and the panko was near-perfect, the sauces it was served with were mediocre, at best. The marinara was overly tangy, while the "crème tartar" was, essentially, flavorless. Next came dinner (why no soup, you might ask...keep reading to find out), my girlfriend ordered the Chicken Piccata, which, by the time it was served, had to have been sitting in the window, under the heat lamp, for several minutes. The chicken was a bit on the dry side, and the sauce had already started to form a thick film. As for my Prime Rib, it, too, had been sitting under the heat lamp. While I had ordered the prime rib 'rare', by the time it reached the table, it was more in the range of medium rare-to-medium. Additionally, it was anything but "English style"...it was tasteless, as were the drippings, and there's was no salt on the crust (actually, there's was no crust, at all), despite what the menu (falsely) claimed. As for the 'question' about soup, yes, we had ordered two cups of the French Onion soup. The first problem was that the waitress brought our soups AFTER she brought our entrees. As she delivered our entrees, she apologized about not having brought the soups yet. She stated that they were ready, and that she'd be right back with them. Unfortunately for us, that "be right back" took approximately 8 minutes. I guess I should have expected as much, as it took her longer than that just to greet us after we had been seated. My girlfriend and I have both worked at many restaurants over the years, so, when we call her service "slow", that would be an extreme understatement. As for the soup, itself, it was WAY overly salty, barely lukewarm, and missing the croutons between the soup & cheese. At this point, we were so fed up, that I decided to ask for the manager...which turned out to be the hostess. She apologized, and attempted to offer us different entrees, to which we had no interest. She then attempted to offer us "free meal" vouchers, to use at a later date. That's when we told her we had no intention of ever returning. My girlfriend informed the manager that she had eaten at the Monterey Road location many times over the years, all of which had been excellent, but this situation was completely inexcusable. Where restaurants are concerned, I believe Denny's to be the bottom of the barrel. I feel the same about McDonald's, where fast food is concerned. If I were to tell you, "I'd rather eat at Denny's or McDonald's, before ever returning to The Bold Knight", THAT should tell all that needs to be said about the quality of the food, as well as the service, The Bold Knight offers. If you want horrible food, and slower-than-molasses service, then, by all means, go to The Bold Knight. On the other hand, if you want really good food, better service, and all of it at lower prices, you'd be better off going someplace like Sonoma Chicken Coop (incidentally enough, that's exactly where we ended up after the "experience" of The Bold Knight). The Bold Knight deserves a 0-star rating...unfortunately, a 1-star rating is the lowest Yelp offers...but The Bold Knight doesn't even deserve that high of a rating.

My S.O. brought me here for a nice steak dinner. Eh. First we noticed the prices - pretty pricey for a midtown restaurant. Steak dinners range from $17-36 or more. I had the NY strip for $29. It was OK - not bad, not great.. could have done as well at home for 1/3 of the cost. Baked potato was good (not dry or leathery). Sauteed veggies were pretty good. Thus far, 3-4 stars. Then we noticed other tables were getting baskets of bread. They seem to have forgotten ours, and some bread would have been nice. Service was good (but for the bread), but I don't think this place is worth the price. I can get better for less at Outback of Black Angus .. and get fresh bread!
(2)Lisa N.
The worst restaurant I have ever been to..EVER. I ordered the cheese fondue and it tasted like you were eating a brick of salt. It was absolutely disgusting. My fiance had the pepper steak or something like that it was as tough as can be. I ordered their most popular seafood pasta and it was tasteless. What a waste of money and this place will definitely be shutting down soon. Terrible.

I'll make it short and simple. Very nice and casual setting. Jeronimo our server was great. Good food great service I definitely recommend it. Must try the Gilroy house steak, delicious!

Disappointment is an understatement We expected old school The Bold Knight. Halfway through Father's Day dinner the bar area exploded with Karaoke en Espanol. Volume at not yet recorded decibels. Apparently tone deaf patrons with too much wine hijacked our Fathers Day conversations. I requested noise level reduction however that never happened. Suddenly we ate our steaks at new record speeds and bolted. We joked about singing Volver Volver or El Pastor to ruptured eardrums. Our kid recommended to pass out earplugs at $5.00 a each. My husband had a fondness for the place but when we were forced to hear "twist n shout" en Espanol with a piercing female voice my husband said "We will NEVER be back" I kinda feel violated. If we wanted to hear Mexicana music we would have gone to a frequent spot with GOOD Mexicana music. My ear drums still hurt. Oh the steak? Got lost in translation during "Rock Sround The Clock" en Espanol. Disappointed is an understatement. Well I know my husband won't ever request to return.
(1)EVERETT H.
This place is a definite FAIL! The food was terrible. The fried prawns were out of the box frozen for $19! The Chicken Teriyaki was cafeteria tasting garbage. The Caesar salad was warm, wilted and the dressing tasted like it came out of a Kraft bottle. This is NOT the Bold Knight from years ago. Will not be returning.
(1)Giselle D.
This place has a good breakfast. They offer a breakfast buffet with a little bit of everything. If you don't want the buffet they have a menu also. But it's buffet so that's where I go
(4)Chris S.
We went here hoping for some good food. We arrived at 8:25 for dinner and were told that the kitchen was already closed and that the restaurant would soon follow. We accepted this graciously and left, only to see the hours sign that said they closed at 9. It bears mentioning that this was a Saturday. This is the height of laziness and unprofessionalism, leaving me distinctly unhappy.
(1)Patricia S.
Love this place! Came here for an early dinner Saturday 02/28/15, my daughter had the French onion soup & regular spaghetti - she loved it! I had the house salad & teriyaki chicken - cooked to perfection and so delicious! We then came back 03/01/15 to meet a friend for breakfast. My daughter & I had the buffet breakfast, while my friend ordered from the menu (pancakes, hadh browns & sausages). All of our meals, once again, was fantastic! The food is so tasty, and the bottomless mimosas are wonderful! The place, both days, was packed with customers, there was even a private event downstairs (had no idea they had a private banquet room downstairs) Saturday evening. This place is always busy! They also have a bar with tv and happy hour. I highly recommend this restaurant for the food, the atmosphere, and the employees and owner were always so pleasant and attentive to their customers!
(5)Whyte F.
I had a steak here, oh, "yes he did". Friendly staff, ALWAYS, but the food lack concentration. I going to prove it by writing this now and pick up a second time... My prime rib. We'll see, the guy on the phone was a trier, I like it. We'll see but last time the steak was too tough and I didn't have a smile on my face but I tried it. Customer service will always bring me back to give other dishes until they stop trying. Im going back tonight, "we'll see"
(2)Jessica B.
This place definitely doesn't deserve the bad rating it has! Not for breakfast/brunch anyway! I take away a start because it smells a little musty in the entry way, but it's an old building so I cant blame them too much. It's dirt cheap, and has plenty of vegetarian items, although you have to read the difficult font to find them! I heartily enjoyed the coffee and the garden omelet! The service was very attentive and friendly. Free parking lot in the back!
(4)Sandra G.
I tried calling the restaurant this evening to make reservations-no answer although the recording said the restaurant was open until 9 PM. We took a chance and drove to the restaurant. When we arrived it was a little busy but they did seat a couple. The hostess/server never returned to assist the couple next in line, never said she would be back to assist and I know she never acknowledged my party of 3. We waited about 15 minutes with absolutely no assistance or acknowledgement. What kind of customer services is that?! If they are short staffed that's an internal problem to address; customers should not be ignored. Very poor customer service.
(1)Anna L.
I hate giving low start...however, for this place, 2 stars for good service only! All items in the menu were raised up around 20% compared to the price uploaded on Yelp. We ordered crab cake, spaghetti and bold knight beef. Crab cake was terrible, no taste... Beef and noodle were acceptable...
(2)N A.
The last 4 times I have been here, we always expect a very long wait. Today's visit continues that trend. We go here because the food is good, but the service just takes along long time. I think they are just inexperienced help, because this place is never filled and it's a Friday night. It sucks that a place I don't mind going to has horrible help in terms of making you wait before you even can order your food even when the place is consistently less than 10% occupied. I think this is why it's never busy. I expect it to go out of business just because of the long, long, long wait. Update. Food finally came. Rib Eye cold and fresh steamed veggies were cold. Hate when this happens because it's times like this when you say "why do I keep giving this place a chance?" Bad. Btw, the fondue is still good.
(2)Henry P.
Do not waste your money. It took them half and hour to seat us and there were tables available. There was just no one available to seat us. They are understaffed or so it seems because they have plenty of people but no one to help you? Okay so we got seated. We ordered. We ordered two prime ribs. Low and behold, it takes approximately 45 minutes before we get our steaks. And to make matters worse... They didn't have mashed potatoes... Or baked potatoes left. Fair enough. We ask for steamed veggies... But wait, they're out of that too. So they brought us rice. I took one bite of that rice and didn't touch it again. Oh yeah and they over cooked the steaks but no one was available for us to let them know. Steak was decent kind of tasted like steak I've had from Applebee's. Okay take my word for it, save your money, don't come here...
(1)Nicole T.
DO NOT COME HERE AND WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Although the food is tasty, it comes out late, cold and with bad service. Before this experience my mom was recommending this restaurant to friends, now she refuses to ever go back. I came here a couple days ago for Mothers Day and right when I walked in they said that they didn't have our reservations recorded even though my mom called the day before and spoke to someone who said they put us down. We had to wait about 15 minutes, which really isn't too bad but once we were seated it was HORRIBLE. We ordered claim chowder and entrees, and the waitress told us the soup would come out quickly but the food would take about 20 minutes. No problem. 20 minutes later tho, still no soup... I flagged down a random waitress and asked about the soup. She goes into the kitchen and seconds later comes out with our claim chowder. It was cold. The waitress had forgotten to bring it and it got cold. Food took another 30 minutes to come out and only ONE OUT OF 4 DISHES WAS WARM. Also I had asked for a substitute mashed potatoes instead of rice and so did my mom. No mashed potatoes. The waitress who brought out the food apologized and said she would bring some on the side for us. We were just about done eating 20 minutes later, STILL NO MASHED POTATOES. Finally our actually waitress checks up on us (we hadn't seen her since she took our order) and I asked again about the mashed potatoes. She comes back from the kitchen a minute later saying they ran out... Why couldn't the other waitresses tell us that 20 minutes before after she promised to bring us some?? I have no idea. My brother decided to let the manager know about our horrible experience and her excuse? "It is mothers day, we're all very tired." My sister, brother and myself are all in the restaurant industry or were in the past and we never tell customers "hey I'm tired so you won't get good service tonight! Sorry." No. That's what this job requires, hard, demanding work and if you can't handle it, don't be in the business. All customers should be treated with the same customer service no matter what day or time it is. Absolutely horrible.
(1)Katherine G.
We had a Party of 23 on Nov 22nd for my mom's Birthday Dinner. Our Server was Absolutely Perfect, He went above and beyond to make sure our entire party was was well taken care of. Our glasses were never empty and our dinner orders were all on point. We enjoyed our service so much that we returned the next morning to try out the breakfast buffet suggested to us by our server. We will definitely be returning not only for family gatherings but for breakfast on Sundays as well.
(5)Joel M.
Very average, no charm or character. Food ranged from average (small cheap prawns), to very bad (soggy old salad). Came with a large group, which tried most of the menu. Nothing was great, nothing was special. Staff was nervous and impersonal, two members of our party were not served for 20 minutes after everyone else, though staff denied there was any mix up. No management or supervisor came out to apologize, instead we got many nervous condescending comments from our two waitresses. Also of note was that we were gratuitied at 20% without them letting us know, which seemed a bit high (sneaky too) for sub-par food and service, though I do like to tip good servers 20%. We will not be visiting this restaurant again.
(2)Stephanie C.
The end of a die-nasty.... If I could give this place half of a star, I would. The only decent food served was the fondue and the calamari. I came in as a party of 8, with my family. When the waitress came back with our drinks, she said not all of us could have a glass of water because there's a drought. That should have given me a clue that the kitchen didn't have enough water to boil the clams and lobster correctly. 4 out of 8 meals were mediocre. The other 4 had to be sent back. 2 of which had to be sent back more than twice. Needless to say we won't be back.
(1)Santiago G.
Amazing service! I rented the banquet space for my Company Party the evening of December 10th for a party of 40. I wanted a served intimate dinner for my team and Alma, Jaime and their team delivered! Great job you guys! I look forward to doing business with you again and I will definitely be recommending you to my local colleagues and clients.

Bold knight now have a Sunday buffet that is good and affordable for a family of 4 so bring the family down and enjoy the place. Tony S.

I loved this place. We have spent a lot of money here. We held our son's baptism party here, a wonderful brunch buffet. Everyone raved about the food. It had been a few weeks since my family and I had gone here for breakfast, but it seems like in that span of time everything that made this a great place to eat breakfast had gone out the window. To be fair to our server, she was new and I don't place any of the blame on her. I ordered the "Farmer's Breakfast," 3 eggs, 3 bacon, 3 sausage, and potatoes. Simple enough. In my first review I raved about this place knowing how to cook an over medium egg. Not this time. It was so raw the yolk AND whites had spread underneath every potato on the plate. I can't eat raw eggs. I don't want raw eggs on anything I eat. Secondly, the bacon and sausage was completely different. The high quality, well cooked ones we've had EVERY TIME but this one weren't on any of the plates I saw. The server offered to make it right, however I'm not a fan of sending plates back and waiting for another, so she took the plate away and I just had my coffee. I just don't trust a returned plate. I may be coming off as a picky a*hole as my wife suggested but the raw eggs and cheap sausage along with the huge 180 this place turned made me lose my appetite. I was not charged for what I didn't eat, rightfully, but no manager offered to talk to us, no "sorry," nothing. If I wanted a sloppy breakfast I would have gone to the IHOP down the street.

This is a review of their customer service, not their food: I tried to buy a $50 gift certificate for a friend but they were all out. They asked me to come back the next day. So I stop by after work the next day and they tell me that they still do not have the gift certificates but would be happy to let me pay and then mail one to me. I'm not accustomed to restaurants making me work so hard to give them my money. I hope they're better organized when it comes to food safety than they are when it comes to taking people's money.

This was my first time at Bold Knight. Every time we pass by this place I always say, "we need to come for breakfast!!" Well yesterday my husband woke me up saying "lets go to Bold Knight!" We get there an the parking lot was about 85% full which at the time I thought was great, but usually breakfast places on the weekends are packed. We walked in and were seated immediately. Again very unusual for a breakfast spot especially on a Sunday morning. We ordered our drinks as soon as we sat down and started looking at the menu. After we got our drinks everything kind of went down hill. The women sitting behind us complained about everything. At first I thought it was them just complaining but they said they waited an hour for their food and when it came the orders were wrong. I think that was pretty cut and dry. Still sitting and waiting for someone to take our order we started looking around the restaurant. Light fixtures were dusty and about half of them were out. We saw our waiter pretty frequently but he seemed stressed and overwhelmed with the table behind us that he neglected all his other tables. So we continued to wait to order.... Food came out fairly frequently (for other people) and a lady refilling water also was on top of her stuff. But when my husbands coffee became empty and we still hadn't ordered we figured it was time to leave. From the time we sat down till we left we wasted 30 minutes of our life. We left $2 on the table for the unrefilled coffee. We figured that was enough since we were invisible to staff anyways. Which was very apparent when leaving and nobody stopped us or said good-bye. Maybe this place is different during dinner. But I doubt. If they cant handle the weekend breakfast rush, maybe they shouldn't serve it. I wish I could comment on the food but sadly all I ordered was water. I wish them the best but they lost my business for sure.

Amazing place! A hidden secret! Great Greek, Italian and American food! Best happy hours in town! Must try! Awesome staff!

Giving 2 stars is being generous I feel.. But seriously . The past 2 times I've went it's just been a disaster . I don't feel like the ambiance matches the prices on the menu . It's very plain and cold . Not very welcoming. The service and the wait time aren't worth the price either .. You literally wait 45 minutes for your entrees . If not more. We ordered fondue which came out in a timely manner, but my husband ordered calamari which came out probably 20 minutes after fondue (we even ordered a second fondue which came out before his calamari) which also looked semi raw.. Not golden crispy fried calamari ... Whatever . Then our salads came out .. And probably 25 minutes later out entrees came out . If we were a big party then maybe I'd be a little more understanding but we were 4 adults and 2 kids .. I meannnnnnm.. We all ordered medium/ medium rare steaks . I don't think those take 45 minutes to cook . And when we finally got our food it was lukewarm. Veggies were just plain cold . All in all .. It was just okay food and terrible service/timing for the price . I would've rather went to in n out burger . At least when u wait there your food isn't cold =\

My husband and son had a craving for a steak dinner; the Bold Knight Bistro happened to be closest from where we were driving. I wasn't thrilled about the choice because I remembered a very over-priced and unremarkable salad lunch from many years before. Our first clue to how bad the food is at this restaurant SHOULD have been how only ONE other table was seated. We fell for the "famous cheese fondue" blurb on the menu. I didn't realize overly salty Velveeta-like fondue is famous and delicious. We could barely stomach more than a few bites, which didn't really matter because the tea light candle used to keep it warm was failing, and the fondue became tepid to cold quickly. The only positives are the friendly servers and seemingly clean restaurant with decent decor. All of our food was bland and far too expensive for the poor quality. Save your money, protect your taste buds and spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. You'll thank me for it.

Terrific breakfast place! Wife and I enjoyed the food, the service, and the ambiance. It's our new "go to" breakfast place!

The bold knight now will never be the bold knight I grew up with on Monterey rd. The fondue used to be complementary and the menu was completely different. My family used to come here ever year for the holidays and that tradition has changed with the ownership of the restaurant. The quality of the food is different and I have tried to like the "new" bold knight but I just can't. I came here last year with my fiancé and we both left really dissatisfied with our meals, the service, and the amount we had to pay for the underwhelming food. The stars given are for the nostalgia of this place and the cheap drinks. I am sad to say my family no longer frequents this establishment any longer.
(2)Stacy S.
This place is okay. I ordered the peppersteak, it was super fatty, not a good cut of meat, so a lot of it went to waste. My husband had the london broil, which he liked. The restaurant is large and clean. Service was good. I am willing to give it another shot.

Strolled in for cocktails and ended up staying for lunch! Dorris the bartender is an absolute sweetheart and the bottomless mimosas truly have no bottom...I tried my hardest to find it! Great service on a Saturday afternoon -- the cubano at the bar recommends the steak; he's right you know , he's been coming here since the 70s because that's how long they've been serving delicious food. ( i had to order the steak and yes it was delicious !) Geronimo is super sweet and fun to chat with too- come in when you have some time to rub shoulders with locals that really care about making sure you enjoy your meal.

I've heard mixed reviews about this place, and finally decided to come try it for myself after a friend said I should check it out. I came here with my mother-in-law and grandmother. They have both said they came to this location and haven't returned, so I feared for the worse. Walking in, this place is very old fashion. A big knight outfit greets you at the door. The restroom are extremely clean, and large! Always a plus. They are located down stairs, but have an elevator for people who may have issues with the steps. The staff was friendly and the restaurant looked very well kept. Oh not to mention they have a rather larger parking space for a downtown eatery. We started with the 'famous' cheese fondue. It was delicious to say the least. I don't think it was real cheese, but I don't know the recipe and they keep it too secret, I've come to this conclusion from the film that kept happening when we weren't dipping, the film happened within a minute time span. For the entree I order a chicken dish that the waitress recommended that wasn't on the menu. It was Jerusalem chicken- chicken breast topped with mushroom, and artichoke, served with rice pilaf and mixed veggies. It wasn't bad. The chicken didn't have much texture, and the rice was plain, but overall it was good. I'd return for a family lunch date. I gave this 4 stars bc the service is friendly but slow. It took forever to get refills and for the bill to be picked up.

I come here all the time but today was ridiculous! Fondue was EXTREMELY watered down, they ran out of Sourdough, & I waited 30 minutes for cold food! Since Las Cazuelas has taken over its gotten worse & worse! Don't waste your time or money here!
(1)DyAnn A.
I am not sure who wrote the comment on the 16th about the watered down fondue and cold food. Not sure what happened, but you need to give them another chance, I have found the food to be awesome and so is the service. I have had breakfast, lunch and dinner and have not been disappointed. Jimmy, keep up the good work, and they have the best waiter there, ask for "Michael.
(5)Dre J.
Having frequented the Bold Knight since 1980, I can assure you that breakfast here is a guaranteed win. Come for the delicious Bloody Mary's, if nothing else. Stay for the amazing steaks and delicious biscuits and gravy. ALL of their breakfast skillets are great. I haven't tried the Sunday breakfast buffet- but will probably do so this next week. Both Michael and Doris are excellent servers and this is a perfect alternative to all those busy, hyped-up restaurants that have a long wait on the weekends!
(5)Tori c.
Brunch!! Lynn, Miguel, and the rest of the staff were amazing! Where else can you get a great breakfast with mimosas and coffee included in the price? Try the corned beef hash and menudo, you won't regret it.
(5)Mark R.
Love this place! Been coming here for years. Great food and great service. Miguel is the best!
(5)Ira W.
Once in a blue moon I will have such a terrible experience it will stick in my mind as being a horrible place and I need to avoid it. The Bold Knight may fall into that category. I can't say anything about the food since my wife and I sat there for nearly 30 minutes and no one came by to take our order. It was absolutely ridiculous. A group of four women were seated behind us and complained left and right about the order being wrong, taking nearly an hour to get their food, etc etc. I told my wife enough was enough. We walked. I'd stay away..

Went to ihop first, 35 minute wait... I'm not a patient person. Started driving up the block and saw the sign guy with a bold knight sign...$14.95 buffet...so we spot the restaurant and it looks nice. Going in we are greeted by the chef with a big welcome.. he went on explaining how this was their first buffet and he hoped we enjoy... Um ok..all was basic, eggs, bacon, sausage( sausage was huge), variety of fruit, crescents, horchata, peach drink but what got me was the menudo... Mmmm good....and for $10 you got bottomless mimosas... The waiting staff was AWESOME!!!!,super friendly, kinda like we were regulars. While here we found out they had a dinning area downstairs, and because of the service, we inquired about renting it for our end of the year cheer party, nice of the manager to give us a mini tour.. overall super impressed, and treated us with respect.... And never judged.. ( my husband and I were tattoos out).. .they will get the 5th star when I taste the rest of the food...

This review is specific to service from a waiter named Danny. Almost always, service and food is a 5 star. This is the second time we have had Danny as a waiter at the counter and each time it has been subpar. We are constants

On Dec. 19th we rented out the first floor for a company party and had a great time. Service and food were great. I would recommend it to anyone. Great deal for the space and food. Mike and Alma were great to coordinate with. The menu options were delicious and accommodating to folks who were vegan. It was a large party of about 140. Everyone left happy!

I love this place! I've always had great food here :) Geronimo is the best! I've had eggs Benedict, sourdough french toast, scrambled skillets, pancakes and everything is delicious! I have had lunch and dinner, too. Always great :) The owner is such a sweetheart, too! Go check it out for yourself :)
(4)Kehlani D.
My boyfriend and I had our first date here months ago. We now come at least 1-2 times a week! The food is phenomenal as well as the service! I give it five stars for sure, the prices are more than reasonable! Mike is one of the great servers they have. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone! I've brought my mom and best friends when the come to visit and they love it as well. Also don't forget to try the cheese fondue but beware.... It's completely addicting! :)

I don't know why there are such bad reviews. The food was decent nothing super amazing. The service is ok. The server was nice but she wasnt the friendliest.

I gave them 1 star because giving them ZERO was not an option. We went in for lunch today and some customers (two different tables) on the way out said "hope you are not in a hurry" and the other one said "you might want to leave while you can". We did end up leaving before we placed an order. First, we stood there for several minutes at 1pm while several waitresses and a hostess (masquerading as the manager) walked right by us avoiding eye contact, then when we were finally seated and the hostess/manager offered us drinks we told her we were ready to order and she said "I'll have someone come take your order - she had a pad, we watched her take orders at another table, wth? Then she brings us the water we requested and a little bowl of limes (as requested) and my friend noticed that her lime looked used, YES as in someone else had squeezed it and possibly even bitten into it - gross! Someone call the health department! And when she showed it to another waitress she admitted it did look like someone had bitten into it. Poor girl apologized and took it away, but at that point we got up and left. I used to love the Bold Knight when it was on Monterey Road. The new one is just across the street from the county bldgs, courts, etc... and they seem to be shorthanded, to put it politely. Some other people tried going into the bar, but there was no bartender, no waitress, nothing serving the bar - they left too. They no longer serve fondue' which was a big attraction. I'm disappointed to see the Bold Knight going downhill. AT lunchtime On Friday! pick another place...

Went for the Mothers Day Buffet and have never been so disappointed ! This was the smallest buffet i have ever seen and certainly NOTHING WAS SPECIAL, but will say that some of what was there was tasty-scrambled eggs etc-dried up 1/4 pieces of waffles-no butter but would give you some if you asked for it-did have syrup-later brought out nice fresh pancakes, several small almost stale rolls in a tray but no variety, a very large empty pot of what HAD BEEN cheese fondue-no more coming out unless we wanted to pay for an order We got there at 1;00 per our reservations and many of their few food trays were empty-the so called meat carving station was a small table just as you entered the front door, with excellent ham- hard to find anyone to slice it though, and I'm guessing a small piece what was supposed to be prime rib already pre cut-..Appetizers were a few small pieces of ham and cheese, a large bowl half empty of very soggy salad, fruit tray was chunks of watermelon and a 2nd melon, dessert "station" as they called it was laughable-a few common what i think are called Palm leaf cookies, small bite sized cupcakes?.They did give free champagne & mimosas as promised but no live music, no free gift card to a mother at each table as was promised over the phone. Our waitress Allison was wonderful-she kept apologizing for lack of food saying it was because of Mothers Day - place was full but not overly crowded, no one waiting at the door-if you can't handle a buffet, then don't have one. All (ha, ha) of this for $29.95 ! Probably ok on regular days but I'll never know because I will never set foot in here again-i heard several other customers say the same thing-it was to be a special day for a special person and if I owned this restaurant I'd be ashamed
(2)Chris W.
i love this place. this is one of ther lesser-known breakfast spots, but the menu is great and they have bottomless mimosas. i usually get the eggs benedict (it's good here), but recently had pancakes and sausage and that was fantastic as well. Miguel's a champ! woo! 1~

My family and I recently ate dinner here. We got seated fairly quickly even though it was a bit busy on a Friday night. While we waited, a couple of us went to the bar to order drinks. while we got seated at our table, I noticed a bug in my drink I ordered from the bar. It took awhile to get anyone's attention to get my drink replaced. We ordered the fondue for the appetizer, and dinner at the same time. The fondue came quickly. It tasted alright, it almost just seemed like Velveeta cheese to me. Even though the fondue did come quickly, we waited over an hour for our main entrees, which was extremely disappointing. When we finally got served our meals, the kids meals came with the wrong sides and most of our food tasted very bland with very little salt or seasonings. Since we did wait so long, and It was very difficult to get any staff's attention, we just kept our food. For the prices, I really expected better from this place. As a whole, we all left unsatisfied with our dinner.

Another great steak and fondue dinner. I'm always happy here. But my favorite is Sunday breakfast.

This place was awesome. My company held their Holiday Party here recently. Their food was amazing. So delicious and filling. The main floor was rented out and we enjoyed the bar and had an area to dance all night. Service was great. Food was served on time. Waiters were available when needed. I can't wait to go back again soon.

We had our Winter Celebration last night and ALL our staff loved the food, drinks and service! Thank you Mike and your wonderful team for helping us coordinate this great event!!!!

I just moved in across the street from this restaurant and have been about five times already. It's really amazing. I don't understand how it's only 3/5, some people have been incredibly harsh on their reviews. Don't let them turn you off. I'll update my review with more specifics when I've tried more of their menu but for now I wanted to drop my 5 start rating.
(5)Nikki M.
Long wait and the food wasn't worth it at all. Don't order the spaghetti it taste nothing like traditional spaghetti Swiss mushroom hamburger was cold, Steak salad barely had any lettuce. Originally ordered filet minon and the waitress came out to say they didn't have anymore filet minon or baked potatoes. I asked for a high chai for my daughter about 3x before they actually brought one out. I asked for water about the same amount of times before they brought it out. I will not be returning here. Customer Service = HORRIBLE!

I see the mixed reviews about this place and I'm a little curious. I've only been here for lunch so I can only speak to that. To start the service was excellent. Our waiter was polite, tentative and charming. He made recommendations and we listened and the person I was with ordered based on that. The food was fresh and brought within an appropriate amount of time (given this was lunch time, it could be hit or miss you just never know). I had what I thought would be a simple turkey sandwich and too my surprise there was nothing simple about it. I was given fresh backed bread, thick slices of fresh turkey (yes you can tell the difference), vary fresh crisp lettuce and just a hint of mayo. It was excellent (one of the best turkey sandwiches I've had at a sit down restaurant ever). Additionally, the accompanying fries where a nice thick cut and cooked (well deep-fried I guess is the right term) to perfection, which was also nice. The person who ordered the stew (recommended by the waiter) couldn't say enough times how good it was and from where I was sitting it looked rather tasty too. We were able to sit and talk and enjoy our lunch without constant interruption from the waiter or other staff which was really nice plus. They even managed to stay on top of drink refills another big plus. I suggest trying it for lunch sometime would be a very good idea especially if you're in the area.

Be careful with the image portrayed on the menu. It appears to offer PRIME beef, and certainly does not! My wife and I ordered the same rib eye steak - one was very good, thick, juicy, and tender - cooked to order med rare, but USDA Choice at best. The second steak looked as though it came out of a super market package, and was dry, tough, and grainy. I brought this to the attention of our server who told me that the steaks were cut from the same strip. NO WAY! Also, the crab cakes were overcooked and fried in oil that should have been changed the prior week. My wife and I shared the good steak and took the lousy one home for the dogs who reluctantly choked it down. Any decent place would have refunded the price of that steak which still had marks on it where the jockey had hit it!
(2)Weston R.
I liked the food. Great steak. So so service. I went in on my lunch hour and I had to wait, and then wait again to pay. Very responsive bus and drink service. The food was very good, but be sure to tell them if you are in a hurry.
(3)Randall C.
Nice facility. It was surprisingly empty on a night when the Packers and Seahawks were playing. I did not get a sense it was a gathering place for football fans. Lots of parking spaces. Food could be better. The bread on my club sandwich was over toasted and the whole sandwich was dry. There were not enough TVs and the TVs that were there were too small. We had to look way up and squint. I would not go there again.
(2)Jonathan M.
Excellent service! Not from the area and came with friends- the fondu is a must have!! Make sure to come hungry! Don't be surprised when the servers keep your drinks topped off and fresh food coming! Banquet facilities down stairs are impeccable. Great place for a post work get together or a celebration with friends and family. My girlfriend had the Chicken Jerusalem, I snagged a bite in between my bbq bacon bleu burger which was cooked temp to order. We were both happy with the presentation and quality of our food. If I didn't live so far away I could see myself becoming a Bold Knight regular!
(5)Steven D.
Great breakfast way better then huge chain restaurants and great service and the staff is very professional.
(4)Nicohle B.
Havent been here is a while because still upset the old one was demolished (working on moving on but its hard) but a friend got a hankering for fondue so we went and were shocked. The menu had added a few things which made it feel like the old spot. My friend had the chicken panini with mushrooms and that was good. I had the salad and they still need to work on those. Too much dressing. The veggies on the menu was not available for the salad (ie wontons). Also the salad was wilted. Fondue = yummm! Clam chowder was good also... Just need to work on the salads... Also met the son of the new owner. Nice and defenitely gave great customer service...

Good breakfast buffet with good selection. Service was good and every thing was very tasty and well prepared.

I grew up on the original Bold Knight on Monterey Hwy....this one took the name, kept the armor suit and the fondue...the rest is honestly a fail. The drinks took far too long to get to the table, mind you there are only about 10 tables busy, the rest empty...so what's the with the wait? They had a pianist...he was fine but it was way too loud, we could hardly hear each other talk and kept saying WHAT to the waiter. The salad took a good minute too.... give me a break, it's lettuce and dressing, what the heck are you all doing back there?! The food itself was just okay...but when I pay $30+ per plate...I think it should be GOOD! The waiter was slow, nice but slow. When he thought we were finished with the fondue, he's wanted to take it...um, we're not finished, we're talking and stopped stuffing our faces for a moment. Then he comes up and says are we finished with that yet? We finally say sure and he picks up our margaritta glasses....my husband's was half full....I said well...leave his, it's half full. Odd! Then we took home the left overs....one would think that once we had our "doggie bag" that the check should follow.....10 more minutes...and I had to ask for it. They are so not the Bold Knight.....just used the name. As we're leaving the hostess (so not needed) handed us a card for 15% off our next visit. Bless her heart....we won't be back ever. I have no problem paying for a good meal but really don't like dropping $100+ and leave feeling like this. Save your money, go somewhere else. I guess I should have known when I tried checking the menu on their web site....they use a free site and when you try to access anything, it takes you to GoDaddy to purchase the site if you wish LOL.

Tried out brunch for the first time here today. Decent menu of breakfast standards. The place is clean and employee uniforms are clean, too. Food came out fine - nothing over the moon, but decent. Hash browns were a stand out - really crispy outside and soft inside. Service wasn't great, though. We got seated right away, but then it took a long time for somebody to come over and even get a drink order going. After we finally ordered, the food came out in a sufficient time, but then took a long time for anybody to come back for drink refills or checking in. After we asked for more coffee, took about 10 mins for it to actually come to us. None of the staff was rude or mean, but nobody seemed to be interested in good service, either. Not much eye contact, no welcoming greeting, not attentive, etc. Overall decent food, but service to be desired. I'll try it again sometime, but it probably won't be first on my lsit.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to write a review about this restaurant! This is my favorite restaurant in San Jose. I have come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I must say, I am never disappointed. If you come for lunch or dinner be sure to order some warm cheese fondue! If you're a meat lover the Bold Knight is known all over the city for it's steaks. I treat myself to steak and lobster with a side of mash potatoes. You can't go wrong with this meal for champs! The portions are hefty so I often take half of it to-go. There's also a full bar here, and an impressive wine menu. My last visit to the Bold Knight a couple months back was on a Sunday morning. I was surprised with the live music and lively feel of the restaurant during the day. The servers are friendly, down to earth, and not pushy. Most workers have been working here for several years so they are knowledgable on the menu and always patient with my 20 questions. The service was great, the food came out in a normal amount of time. I can't wait to come back home to San Jose in a few months and eat here. I need my fondue and steak! Check out the place for yourself, there' s a reason they have been around for so long.

Awesome. Fondue and surf and turf. EXCELLENT. SHOCKED this place doesn't get more business (at least the night we were here).
(5)Karen F.
Mike and his staff at Bold Knight are awesome. We had our office Holiday Celebration at Bold Knight and a wonderful menu was put together for us, service was great and the food too.

So disappointed to what's it's become.

An update: BE PREPARED! If you come in after 2:00pm, you'll NOT be served lunch anymore! Dinner begins at 11an, now! Just saying... Wasn't prepared to have dinner during lunch hours... I loved this place! Right after church it's without question...Bold Knight Bistro! Loved the food! Breakfast in a flash! Such a huge portion, more than not I take home!! Too bad it isn't that way anymore with their time changes...
(3)Debbie L.
I've never had fake fondue until I came here. It is NOT fondue. Don't bother unless you like melted American cheese (think Kraft singles or a bowl of heated Velveeta) and stale bread. Steak was ok, and veggies tasted microwaved. I wouldn't come here again.
(2)Tiffany H.
Gave this place another shot in July when I was invited for a bday party and was fairly surprised that it was good again(I ordered a burger and of course fondue) with the exception of a room temperature salad and dressing. So my husband and I decided because I had an ok experience we would go there for our date night. We ordered their signature fondue, 2 salads and were splitting a burger. Bread came out right away with our drinks, mine a water, his a soda. As I grabbed a bread from the basket to stick my fork/stick thing into the bread to dip, I noticed something moving. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. As I ripped open the bread to get a closer look sure enough it was a nat like bug with wings. Now totally grossed out hoping it was just one of those things we started going through the rest of the bread and while we didn't find any more live bugs we saw what we believed were eggs or remnants of bugs. As we were waiting for the manager my husband goes to take a drink of his soda and I stop him in his tracks as I see something "green" in his brown soda. It looked like a piece of carpet. The assistant manager, who made us wait for him to come as he was bartending, came up to me and asked very rudely where the bug was. SInce I was distracted by the carpet in my husbands drink I had lost sight of the bug but opened the piece of bread more and there the bug was weaving in and out of the holes of the bread. He then apologized and when we showed him the carpet in the soda, he claimed it was a mojito/mint leaf. Really? Well, my husband had a soda anyway not a mojito! He offered us everything under the sun from free food to wine. Of course we said no, he asked with attitude, "What do you want then?" I honestly wanted him to go the other tables and clear their bug filled bread which I'm still hoping happened after we left! But I wanted to more so show him and for him to know it wasn't anything the staff did to make us walk out. I loved this place as a little girl and had many dates with my husband at the old location on Monterey, I am so sad to see this one time staple of San Jose turn to crap!

The Bold Knight is very disturbing !!. was hired as a chef, to come in and help them bring back up there quality. Worked, and when it came to paydays, they did not pay me. I have asked several times for my paycheck, they would blow me off. If that's how they treat me as an employee, well, just look at the last reviews. VERY UNETHICAL

There goes my fond memory of a good steakhouse. Nothing like when it was on Monterey Road. Even their cheese fondue which I used to love so much was now overly salty. I would have been happier with Velveeta at home. One of the main dishes was completely cold and two other steaks were way over cooked. To top it off, something burned in the kitchen and smoked up the entire dining area. It was literally foggy. Luckily we were almost done. What an over-priced adventure!

Went here last night for my dad's birthday, since my dad wanted to eat steak. Since we used to come to the Bold Knight back in the day when it was on Monterey Road we thought we would try it out at the new place.....We had a reservation for 15 at 7:30pm, we were seated served fondue and told 15 minutes later that they ran out of Prime Rib after my Dad was asked what was his order (mind you this is a steak place). He changed it to Rib Eye which they said they had....14 out of the 15 people at the table ordered the Rib Eye, in which the waitress came back 15 mins later to tell the party they only had 3 Rib Eye steaks left....So everyone changed their order again.....Most got NY Steak and my Dad got one of the Rib Eye steaks, most of the steak was cooked as asked but most was not...It was a very disappointing situation. To make the group some what happy they "comp'd" 5 drinks....in which I wished they "comp'd" all 15 drinks...... Recap - 1. The food was okay, not as good as it used to be. Keep in mind I used to come to the Monterey Road site since the mid 80's... 2. The parking was horrible, this place is off 1st street where you cant park on it if there parking lot is full.... 3. They tend to run out of meat so please ask if they have enough food.....especially prime rib. I would probably choose somewhere else to eat especially if a steak place runs out of steak so early into dinner.

Great place for breakfast. It's quiet, not crowded, has all the breakfast staples (I had California Eggs Benny), and the sports bar with big screens are separate from the formal dining area. There is a problem, finishing. They fell short on a simple order. They didn't have any avocados for my California Eggs Benny. Not too big of a deal but a problem nonetheless. I'll come again given it is quick and quiet

Been coming to Bold Knight (first on Monterey Rd) for my whole life - I'm 34. I stopped coming earlier this year because the last several times had been sub par, food quality and service. Decided to come tonight since we wanted a steak and were pleasantly surprised! New owners (they also own a taqueria and had been customers since Monterey and wanted to bring back the good food quality)- we had the son as our waiter and it was a pleasure. The steak was perfectly cooked- excellent char on the outside and perfectly medium pink inside. The fondue was as good as always and better than my last few visits. No linen anymore or salad included with the meal, but who cares about that, the Rib Eye was delish! Please give these new owners a chance to get it all going, it's worth it!!

Got to the BK about Noon and had a hard time parking. The lot was half full but every car was a Lincoln Town Car or Cadillac and each was taking two spaces. Thought I'd eat at the bar since I was alone but the bar was jammed. An older crowd which, coming from me, means old. The service was friendly and the prices reasonable. Think Tadich Grill with the rudeness turned down a couple of notches and half the menu choices at a third of the price and you won't be far off.

If I could give this place no stars I would. We have been wanting to go to this place since last year but it was either closed down for business or under new management. we finally went for my coworkers birthday luncheon. When we arrived for lunch, no one was there. it was pretty much empty. it would of helped if they changed the close sign to open. first of all the place was uninviting. it was freezing! we looked at the thermostat at it was at 62 degrees. we asked the waitress to turn up the heat and she said that it might take a while. one of the ladies said the bathroom downstairs was warmer. service was slow and it took awhile to get our check. some of us ordered beer and it was mostly foam. We ordered the cheese fondue and what came out was velveeta cheese heated by a small candle. we ate it because we were hungry and pretty much the only thing that tried to keep us warm. we all ordered sandwiches and it was not appealing. pretty much white bread with your choice of filling. today I don't feel that great. hoping it wasn't the food yesterday. hopefully this place can get better but for now I pass.

New ownership is a pleasant upgrade. Cajun seafood with pasta is a must. Bar area is classy.

So I decided to give this place another shot....turns out its exactly the same I ordered the linguine and clams. BAD IDEA! Clams were way dry and the linguine was bland no taste, no flavor what so ever

Bold Knight was a staple from my childhood...WAS!! This place has gone down hill, you can't get no lower. Well let me say, the service was awesome (it had to be since they lost our reservation) but the food is a totally different story! We went there for a birthday party (15 people). The fondue was just ok, it was watered down and tasted like velveta (which I think it actually is) The wedge salad is pretty good, but I've had better. Mostly everybody had the Bold Knight Steak, one person sent it back because it was a end piece and was too well done. Everyone else ate it but said they'd never order it again. The carrot cake was bone cold, like they just took it out of the freezer. Very disappointing. Definitely not going back, what a shame!

Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, Bold Knight consistently hits the mark. The Gilroy Steak is a big favorite, coulette cooked perfectly with garlic, mushrooms, mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. Though their Happy Hour menu has been slightly scaled back, there are still many great deals, including sliders, quesadillas, and a fantastic pita plate. From 3:30-6:30 it is one of the longer happy hours in SJ.

Haven't been here since they were I'm Monterey and I wish I would have never went. Wanted to have the cheese fondue since I haven't had it in years. Just didn't taste the same. Bread was stale. Crab cakes were burnt and dry. Chicken fettuccine was overly sauced and seasoned and the customer service was not good. Will not be going back there again!

I have been going to The Bold Knight since I was a little girl and they had their restaurant on Monterey Road. This is definitely not the same experience as it used to be. I've now been to the 1st Street location 5 or 6 times, and tonight has to be the worst I've ever had. First off, for a Friday evening at 7:45 pm, the parking lot, which used to have valet parking because it was so packed, was nearly empty. Their were 4-5 cars parked, and inside the restaurant, 8-10 customers that I could see. Service was quite good - up until the end when it came time to pay the check - it just took a bit longer (maybe 20 minutes) for the server to come back to the table to grab our credit card. But otherwise, it was really quite attentive. Onto the food - cheese fondue - excellent has it always has been. Unfortunate that you have to pay for refills now, but I get it. Otherwise people would never order anything and just eat fondue all night. The salad - why would I want to pay $2.95 for bagged lettuce - still had that "bagged lettuce taste", they added a slice of cucumber to it and a side of what they called bleu cheese dressing. Not the same salad I remember. And the croutons - ewww.. they tasted like fish. I kid you not. My fried prawns were ok - nothing to write home about - portion was decent sized. The baked potato was dry tasting even with sour cream. My friends' teriyaki chicken was decent enough, but nothing special. I think it's time to find another restaurant that does cheese fondue. It's a restaurant of the past, and I'm quite surprised it's still opened. Out of those handful of times I've been to the new location, the last three times there have been little to no customers in the restaurant. Obviously something is driving them away, and I'd love to know why management isn't fixing the problem. But I think this was my last time. After 40 years of going, it's time to retire and find a new place!!

There is a new manager who seems to want to turn this into a Ponderosa steakhouse. Everything we loved about the place is slowly going away. The wait staff is being replaced by child labor who has never eaten in a decent restaurant. They are understaffed in actual waiters but have several little girls who stand around by the door and fawn over the new manager. He spends his time in the bar and with his girls. Don't expect him to check on your table. The cheese fondue is watered down and you'll have to eat it with forks because they don't provide fondue forks anymore. The meal we had on Friday was horrible. The soup was served at the same time as the salads. So we had the choice of cold soup or eat the soup first and then the salad. The prime rib arrived at the table stone cold. When we sent it back they brought my husband an extremely rare piece although he had ordered medium. He does not like bloody meat so he did not eat his dinner. The replacement meals were only slightly warmer and the vegetables were not cooked and cold as well. I was so disappointed last time that we had not gone to Bold Knight in 2 months but this used to be so good that we gave it another try. This was such a great restaurant for years. I am really really sad to see it like this.

I'm sorry Bold Knight but your buttermilk pancakes lost. Buttermilk means buttermilk. And your cakes had NO flavor. Did you miss something here? Granted your short stack has BIG presentation, but let's get back to the basics. Please add BUTTER MILK! IHOP (which is down two blocks from Bold Knight) is giving them a run for their money.... and pancakes! yelp.com/biz_photos/X5un… Three stars for our spunky waitress that stayed on top of our Sunday breakfast here. I'm also going to throw in the large plates that my lady and I had: Belgian waffle with strawberries, hash browns with bacon and scrambled eggs. yelp.com/biz_photos/X5un… yelp.com/biz_photos/X5un… Useful Notes: - Parking is just as bad as IHOP. - Not 24 hours. - Serves lobster and steak dinners. I might consider one day. - Prices.... almost equal to Black Angus but still worth a dinner visit. - No Sunday Brunch on this visit, but worth dropping in for breakfast if IHOP is crowded. Blog Reminder: - She finished the waffle and didn't say a word. What an appetite. Must have been the morning sex.

What an absolute disappointment. We were worried it might be busy on a Saturday night at 7:00 pm, but there was no wait and hardly anyone in the dining room. That should have been our first clue. FOOD: low budget and borderline inedible. The caesar salad should be banned from the menu, it was just nasty. My portobello mushroom sandwich was so bad, it was amazing that they could find a mushroom that small and flat -- appeared that it had been pounded almost into oblivion. Add that the bread was stale and the mushroom was cold, which made my dinner a total waste. My husband's burger was maybe slightly better, but that's not saying much. The fries were cold, totally lacking in flavor, and we were suspicious that they were supplied off of someone else's plate who didn't eat them. BATHROOMS: scary. Enough said. I almost turned on the light from my phone to see around. AMBIENCE: there was none. The place lacks all of the character that the original Bold Knight once had. Plus, there was a party going on downstairs, which is fine, but the music was so loud it was rattling the floors of the restaurant. There were people sitting on the stairs, kids running around, one kid having an absolute breakdown for at least 10 minutes. SERVICE: started off okay, but once they took our food order, it was about 20 minutes before we saw any food. We had to ask for utensils and a napkin for my daughter as they were missing from the table. So disappointed in what this restaurant has become.

Recently visited for Mother's Day brunch after seeing the sign that it is under new management. With previous visits we were very disappointed in the quality of food and the service. It was nice to see a very well staffed restaurant, the servers and bartender went above and beyond for the mom's this day, and the food was terrific. I hope they have continued success.

stay away been going here since i was a small child. it has gotten worse and worse under the different ownerships. this place is a joke. they charge way to much for horrible food and i mean horrible food. restaurant impossible definitely needs to pay them a visit. the food is over priced, the buffets are set shitty, the driniks and made awful. the new owner is promoting his mexican restuarant and should just change the name. they have taken a restaurant that is legendary and made a "mockery" of the name because their is no love in this food. the cheese fondue is awful, there is no flavor in it, it clumps immediatley and is overpriced for the few pieces of bread they give you. i do not recommend this place by any means. they take loyal dedicated customers for granted, when in fact they should value the relationship because they hardly have any customers. they charge for pge for the air and they lower it continuously, they charge for toilet paper who lists pge and toilet paper on the pricing for cartering????? wtf! they close at 10 or 11 on a saturday night which should be popping because they have only like 20 customers that frequent. professional business people work in this area and should be able to buy quality food the breakfast is only almost as good as a fast food spot. the lunch is awful and the dinner is horrible! people should avoid having business meetings and promoting events for this place until they get their shit together.

My family and friends have frequented the Bistro since they took over the old 840 N 1st location and closed their Monterey Road location. We enjoyed the place primarily for Sunday brunch. They served complimentary mimosas or champagne and honeyed doughnut fritters. Our latest visit there was a severe disappointment. The floor was about 75% full and we were seated promptly. We noticed that the tableware looked like they forgot to add the dishwasher soap or the rinse. Besides the water spots my knife had remainders on the blade. Our waiter took our order for drinks and after a wait came back with them. I asked about the mimosas and he said that they still had them. They're not on the menu anymore. We asked for them and he came back and disappeared before taking our order. When he finally came back with them he took our orders and everything seemed okay. He then came back a 2nd time and asked me if I ordered "country fried steak". I said yes and he hurried off to the kitchen. The meals came out and my daughter's avocado slices on her California benedict were full of dark spots. The spots just were not aesthetically pleasing. We sent the dish back to get them replaced. My order came out as a regular steak and eggs. I said that I ordered "country fried steak". His answer was that this is what they gave me. I told him that this was not correct. He did not seem to understand. He then went on to say that he was new and that there were new owners and this was the first time he had waited at breakfast. He did not offer to take the steak back. I told him I'll eat it, but the order was wrong. 2 minutes later he comes back with country gravy for the steak as if to make it right. Luckily my wife's meal was fine. When the bill came I was charged expectedly for the higher priced steak and eggs. I had to tell him to correct the bill. If this place has new owners then they've got a lot to do before they end up losing all their business. I noticed that the dining room needed cleaning. Our booth had dark stains on the bolster arms, evidence that a cleaning service had not been done in some time. I always want to support neighborhood biz, but I'm scratching the Bistro off my list for now. This was a Bistro bummer.

We drove downtown on a whim because we were just visiting family in town. We were about to leave downtown since we didn't find anything, then my husband spotted this place and we just decided to give it a shot. I was nervous since there were no cars in the parking lot. We went inside and it kinda reminded me of a hotel lobby breakfast area. I didn't expect much to be honest. However, the service was really good! We never had a dry cup of coffee and we got our food promptly. The server was very personable and highly recommended the hot sauce from The Pepper Plant that he placed on our table - let me just say, this hot sauce kicked butt! My husband had the steak breakfast burrito and I had the ham and eggs. the food was wonderful! The burrito and the salsa (omg, the salsa was AMAZING!) was out of this world! The hot sauce went perfectly with my hash browns! Oh...did I mention the yummy whole wheat toast?! Anyway, we had great service and great food at an unsuspecting place! We'll definitely be returning!

So...After reading several reviews, I almost cancelled my reservations. But, giving most Bistro's who serve fondue are not kid friendly I decided to just give it a try. Our service was great from the moment I walked in the door. It was my b-day and I was treated with extra delightful service. The kids loved the fondue and my meal was just as I expected.

Can't wait to take the wifey back here for Valentine's day Great steak awesome service always.
(5)D R.
The small parking lot was full - had to park next door at the bank. Bread was cold. The caesar salad dressing was bottled of average quality. One half of the Mediterranean Panini was all bread - no vegetables at all! - so we sent it back; the second one was much better. The Garlic Steak was very tough so my friend's wife sent it back too and ordered something else. The $30 filet mignon was tender and cooked well but tasted like an old dairy cow.The service was very slow, our food took forever to arrive. Mediocre at best. Terrible for the price. With so many great restaurants in San Jose, we will not be going back here.
(2)Lisa L.
The customer service at the Bold Knight is horrendous! The managers do not care about pleasing customers and only think of themselves. The food takes forever to come out and is usually cold. We have had large gatherings to the restaurant and left Extremely disappointed.
(1)Irene C.
The hostess was generally kind. She was accommodating with our seating. We moved twice since we wanted a booth but the booth we were seated at initially was right in front of the kitchen doors. Our server took quite a bit of time to actually serving us and when she did she was very quick. She acted very busy but there weren't that many customers. The food took at least 10 minutes to get to us and it was terrible. I got a cajun chicken panini was not pressed very well, my fruit was warm and had a piece of cheese in it. WHERE did the cheese come from?! The bf had the bbq bacan bleu cheese burger... we asked for it medium rare. We got a well done burger with 7 fries. 7... literally 7. My friend's breakfast was horrible...everything was undercooked... rare steak, watery eggs, barely cooked hash browns. We sent it back and they cooked everything more, but the sunny side up was still too raw. In the habenero sauce it had one huge clump of melted cheese just on the steak. It was bad enough for me to write a bad review

Eat here! I have been coming to this place since I was a kid in the 70s when it used to be pitch black inside with dim, red lighting. Despite the upgrade to a more contemporary steakhouse look, it still retains its old world charm and high quality foods. The steak is to die for! It is charbroiled to perfection and melts in the your mouth. It is spiced just right. The Australian lbster is the best lobster that I have ever eaten. The lobster is soft and flaky. They provide a drawn butter for dipping. Their loaded baked potatoes make the meal...they are huge and flowing with melted butter, sour cream, green onions and real bacon.

2 years later from my last review. This restaurant was empty when we arrived. That should have been our cue to eat somewhere else. The best part was the cheese fondue. Our server mentioned they ran out of skewers for the fondue because other costomers ordered it. There where probably only 4 other tables. Weird. It took a while for our food to arrive, we had to ask for more bread. Presentation wise the food looked good. I ordered petite filet mignon and my husband the lamb chop special. The food was bland, no flavor. Not enough seasoning. I had to add salt and pepper to my food, including the garlic mash. Still bland...i asked for A-1 sauce for my filet mignon. Finally it had some taste. My 8 year old son tasted our food and said " there's no flavor!". The quality of food here has really gone down and we are really disappointed. The service can use some improvement too. Our waitress always seemed to be rushing and would walk away as you were asking for something. Hmmmm...maybe that's why my neck hurts from trying to talk to her as she moved away. I don't think we'll be coming back here. Sad.

My date n I had the cheese fondue and seafood isabella. Very good seasoning. The service was impressive. The waiter mike was nice.
(4)Daisy M.
The service is great here!!!! The cheese fondue is also the thing to have here.....So good!!!! We come here very often and we love the people and they are just an extension to the family...The food is delicious and very filling. The bar is pretty well stocked and they make great shots! :) There are also some nights where they hold certain shows. Good place to be for New Years Eve!! The restrooms are very clean, which is very important to me. Ask for the cheese fondue if you go!!!

I've been here for breakfast and dinner once and as this place is walking distance away from me, I wanted it to be a place that was welcoming to locals. Unfortunately, this place hasn't lived up to my expectations. I tried the lamb for dinner and although it was tasty, it didn't really wow me. I felt I had a much happier experience for breakfast. The atmosphere in the morning has a nicer upbeat vibe rather than a dull lifeless atmosphere at night. In the morning, I got a comped mimosa brought to our table which was a nice touch. And my Greek omelette was prepared well with the nicely fried potatoes on my plate. As for their famous fondue, I can't say that I ever was a fan of it because I had tasted high quality fondue in other restaurants in the past. Save your money. This place is worth a revisit for breakfast but I don't think I'll come back for dinner. Arrive early on weekends or else you have to valet.

do not waste your time!!!!! this is not the bold knight that everyone used to rave about. this place is absolutely sub par. management seemed to be clueless and anti-customer service. this place is dirty, there are flies in the lamps, the overhead lighting and table lights are burned out, there's trash in the front entrance, and the bathrooms are third-world dirty. when we went, it happened to be raining, and there were leaks from the windows and water was falling on our table and dripping on my head. if we could give this no stars we would! it's a shame that this establishment can even be open, who knows how dirty the kitchen or food storage areas are. i'm so grossed out!
(1)Noel M.
We started with an interesting Mediterranean sampler plate, compiling an array of various flavors. A good start. Unfortunately, the lobster tail on our entree was overcooked. Accompanying the lobster was a filet mignon that was a tasty, perfectly well cooked, to our medium rare, desires steak. Extra Perk: We had a phenomenal waitress!
(3)Harlow B.
We decided to give the Bold Knight a try, despite some not so favorable reviews I've seen here on Yelp. We had fond memories of the original San Jose location on Monterey Rd., and just recently noticed the location downtown on 1st St. We went there for dinner on a Thursday night, 1/5/12 at around 7:30pm. The parking lot was rather empty, which made me a bit nervous. We were greeted and seating promptly, and ordered a couple of drinks while we looked at the menu. It looked very similar to the old menu from the previous location. We even asked our waitress if the same guy still owned the restaurant, and she confirmed that. He is now in his 90's and still drops by from time to time. We ordered the cheese fondue for starters and then our entrees. My girlfriend and I both ordered steaks, both were cooked to perfection. Not sure what cut the "Bold Knight Steak" was, but it was bigger and better than my NY Steak (which was slightly more expensive). The baked potato was fully loaded at tableside by our waitress, a nice touch. Our waitress checked back with us after a couple of minutes to ensure the food was prepared to our liking, the answer was a resounding yes! The portions were large enough so that there was zero chance to even look at the dessert options. I sampled the garlic mashed potatoes from my girlfriend's plate, they were delicious. I highly recommend those as a side order choice. Overall we were pleasantly surprised with our eating experience, and we will most definitely be going back again one day soon.

I strolled in to The Bold Knight this morning without a shower, hair a mess from the motorcycle helmet, wearing the same clothes from the night before basically looking like a homeless person. I almost didn't come here as the decor is a bit upscale, but I came anyway. I'm so glad I did too. I was not treated like a bum, but instead greeted warmly like a normal person. Being an avid motorcycler, some places as classy as the Bold Knight can give you some attitude if you don't have some generic publicly approved look to yourself lol. But that was not my experience here. Always great service at this place. Shannon was my server today and she did everything with such a nice, pleasant and happy smile. Brightened my morning. The food is always perfect, and the coffee is awesome. Love this place.
(5)K G.
I gave Bold Knight 5 stars because not only was the food excellent but we had a very large party and the service was still stellar. I used to go the Bold Knight as a little girl in the 1970's when it was still on Monterey Road. My brother and I would only order the cheese fondue as our entrees because it was so delicious. Fast forward to 2014. Since the Bold Knight has moved and is under new ownership I was concerned the food would not be the same. Believe it or not I actually think it's even better! I had the petite filet mignon and lobster tail. EXCELLENT. The filet was juicy and tender and the lobster was obviously very fresh. Of course, I had to try the fondue and it's exactly the same as I remember! Yes the ambience is a bit different than the old setup but it is still very comfy. I advise anyone reading this to please go in and give it a try, despite the bad reviews. Maybe we happened to be there on a good night (Saturday) but to the chefs and wait staff I extend a huge thank you.
(5)Michael C.
Well, this isn't the venerable old Bold Knight of Monterey Road anymore. Apparently new ownership has taken over, and its not a pretty sight. Our salads smelled like fish and the formerly famous fondue was merely a shadow of itself(badly curdled, dark brown and sticky). Prawns were very good and so were the attentive bussers. Waiter service was a bit more problematic with frequent disappearances. A misunderstanding on our cash payment was dismaying, with the waiter and manager taking sides against us. (Doesn't anyone count a till???) Apparently do not pay with cash, as there is no accounting for accuracy. Unfortunately the place reeks with desparation and we would just say beware.

Came here with BF Saturday afternoon for lunch, I ordered coffee and pork chop and we had Garlic bread on the side. Waiters were friendly, food came out super slow. When I finally got my coffee the cup it came in was filthy with disgusting stains on the edge like it was never washed. Food was lukewarm like it's been sitting on the counter for awhile. My pork chop came with "vegetables" but all there as on my plate were carrots. If it was up to me I'd give it a one star, but BF said he liked his food (he had steak), so one more star for making him happy.
(2)Michelle C.
OK, I grew up the the Bold Knight located on Monterey. That was the place to go for Holiday dinners. After church on Sundays. But then they moved downtown. This place looks nothing like the old one. Super up to date fancy. The parking lot is so small, which is why I minus-ed a star. What I can't get over is the fact that they now charge $5 for the cheese fondue! Back in the day you got unlimited refills with your meal. Man do I miss the past....so fat. Oh Jose is one of the original waiters. He is super nice and still works there. Be nice to him if he serves you.
(4)Michael P.
I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for the last five years. No one is going to tell you this is the greatest restaurant in the world, but they do many thing right. I love their breakfast. Try the Greek skillet. Their steaks are good and so is the pasta. Prices are reasonable.
(4)CJ J.
Place was good overall. New ownership seemed fine. Food was good. Had the fondue (obviously). Ordered the Bold Knight Griller and had no complaints. Wife had the Steak kabobs with shrimp scampi. She was satisfied. Read all the reviews here ahead of time and still went to see for ourselves. I used to go to the one on Monterey for years so I know Bold Knight. Not bad so far since things have changed. I'd go back for another round. Recommend at least a try.

So i ate hear for lunch for my girl friends birthday. So to put it this way i was kinda surprised at the service considering there was two waiters and 2.5 tables. It took longer than expected. We knew what we wanted , but it took longer than expect to order.. Could have been the fact that there seem to be no order in the place. Right after one asked us for water another did the same thing and never seen the two for a good amount of time after to order. When we order the they have an pretty okay selection of meals just make sure to ask what your order is and come with. I order sauteed seafood and got pasta, with a bit of seafood. The thing that made me drop the star rating was when i got the food i looked at forked and either it wasn't washed correctly or wasn't washed at all. Wanted to ask for another one but every time i tried calling to waiter over it seem like i was invisible( it did get a bit busier, due to lunch time and business) luckily they gave me a spoon to eat the pasta. My girl friend got the garlic steak, which was pretty good. Only down side was the portion in meat or the portion of everything else they gave. I was expecting something like apples bees or something or two sides something more than a small steak and a okay amount of potatoes. Last thing if you are wanting to order water, I will say not too. Unless you are okay with San Jose sink water. I live in San Jose currently, but i was original from Monterrey. The drinking water from the sink was so much better than here. I know it filled with mineral but man it tasted bad. My girl friend doesn't drink soda, but it forced here to get one to wash the taste of the water out her mouth.

We have dinner here several times a year and have always found the food to be excellent. The service is even better than the food, and the atmosphere is very comfortable. The bar is somewhat removed from the dining room, so the noise from that area is always enthusiastic but non-intrusive. The food - we both had steaks - was well prepared and exactly to our taste. My wife's side dish of potatoes was somewhat cold, but was heated up to perfection. The wine list is varied and surprisingly inexpensive. Highly recommended! We will definitely be back.
(4)Louis N.
Let's be real: this place isn't expensive, but the food isn't that great either. I had the Filet of Ocean Sole, which is a baked fish dish with rice and veggies. It wasn't bad, but it definitely did not make me want to come back. The waitress was nice, and the indoor decor was alright. The food took a little longer to come out than I would expect. There are other restaurants within biking/driving distance that I would definitely rather go to.
(2)Jim R.
I didnt read the reviews first. I had a craving for the classic fondue. However its just not the same. It didnt have the same flavor as the old restaurant. My prime rib lacked flavor and was served a little warm. The veggies were under cooked. My dates shrimp were small and smelled fishy. It was an overall overpriced poorly executed meal using a familiar name.
(1)Dianna R.
Went for lunch today and was so disappointed. I had there special and it was cold, then they took it back and "nuked it! I'm not going back. There are to many good places to go!
(1)Scott D.
Too bad the old Bold Knight on Monterey Rd. isnt there anymore. If I can give 0 stars I would. Horrible service. Ordered medium rare steak and it came well done. Called the manager and he said "what do you want me to do, buy it?" did he expect me to eat something I didn't order? WTF?!?!
(1)Gabrielle M.
I always go for the fondue! It is absolutely great! I can't believe they shut down the one on monterey, it was such a great location. The food is ok. Not really the absolute best but it is good. The atmosphere is awesome for a date or if you are just looking for a nice place without the high price. The staff is awesome! No complaints.

The service was quick. The food was delicious. I had the seafood pasta..OMG it was so good. First time there. I will definitely be back. Not to busy so we were served and out of there within an hour...

Decide to stop here for breakfast since we were all very hungry and did not want to wait at Bill's. Customer service was bad. They had only one waitress and one busboy for the whole restaurant and the bar. Took a good 15 minutes before our order was taken. It took another 15 minutes for the food to come, only to wish it never came. I had a skillet that was covered with American cheese, yuck. Soggy potatoes and toast that was barely toasted covered with way to much butter. I think next time we don't have the patience for the long wait at Bill's we just need to remember our time here and gladly wait!

Very sad, my husband and I used to come to this restaurant frequently when we first moved to San Jose (on Monterey hwy), it was always a treat, staff in uniform, tablecloths, fireplace, elegant dining at it's best. We came for our anniversary Saturday and were completely disappointed. No maitre d' to greet us, we wanted to toast our anniversary and waited 20 minutes for our drink, dinner came along another 20 minutes later, 1 waitress for the whole floor, and she didn't have time to be cordial. The food was excellent, but we were sad for the price they charge that the signature cheese/bread fondue now costs $6!! This used to be the highlight of the dining experience. All in all a huge disappointment and not a what we expected for our special night out. :(

Good food. A bit pricey but if it wasnt.....it would be a burger king. Service was good and people were friendly.

I have never had a bad experience here. The fact that they accept gift certificates from Restaurant.com is also awesome (An otherwise $80 meal for two comes out to about $35). I always get the cheese fondue and try not to eat too much of it to save room for the Gilroy Steak... loaded with garlic and gorgonzola, with grilled vegetables and garlic mashed potatos.. it is one of my favorite meals ever. Pair it with some delicious wine, and you have yourself a fantastic evening. Not to mention, the staff here is super personable and very attentive to your needs. Go on a weeknight for a more quiet atmosphere and a ridiculously good meal

Well I decided to take my son back to the Bistro one more time to make up for a dinner a couple of months ago that wasn't to my expectations. We actually found parking in the lot for a 7P.M. Friday night dinner. So far so good. The Maître d' greeted us at the door and seated us right away. Our server Mike was fantastic and if you closed your eyes just to hear him talk you'd think Antonio Banderas was the server. Of course the Cheese Fondue Velvetta or not I just love it. Ordered the Fried Calamari appetizer to start. Delicious. My son ordered the Prime Rib "Perfect" I ordered a seafood combo saute in lemon butter and very hot and tasty. Desert was cheese cake and very fresh. My son was very impressed. Second time around was well worth it. Thank you to George and Mike. We will be back!

PROS: Good Food, Nice Staff.. They have many dinner specials, and on certain nights, they offer certain dishes. CONS: Sucky parking, kinda ghetto.. very odd hours.. FINAL ANSWER: GO!! If you have nowhere else to go!

The food is ok. The portions are nice. I used to enjoy the Bold Knight, until the weekend bartender changed a few months ago. He is awful. I used to enjoy sitting at the bar and enjoying my breakfast His attitude and unprofessionalism has turned me off from going to the Bold Knight at all. Don't sit in the bar area or at the bar, unless you want to be overcharged, under served and treated rudely!

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The food was good (and they offer a nice selection of things), the portions were large, and the prices were very reasonable. I came with several other people for lunch and each of our dishes were under $10 and most of us went back to the office with leftovers. Our orders ran the gamut--calamari, soup, salad, pasta, burgers, sandwiches, gyros--and everyone enjoyed what they got. The calamari had a nice, light batter and wasn't greasy. The alfredo sauce on the pasta looked good (not too thin, not too goopy) and didn't drown the noodles. The burgers were topped generously with bacon/mushrooms. The gyro was overflowing with enough meat for two sandwiches. The only downside was that while the waitstaff was friendly, they were not very attentive. We had to flag them down when we needed refills on our drinks and condiments for our burgers/fries/sandwiches. (Don't most places usually either already have ketchup on the table, or automatically bring it to you when you order a burger or something with fries? Anyway...) Definitely a nice place to have around if you work near by and don't want Togos...again.

Two stars for cleanliness and the bussboy. None for the food or the rest of the service. The fondue is American Singles the New England Clam Chowder is Campbells. Haha. There is no point of returning ever. Unless it's free. Also I had stomach issues for a couple of days after having the seafood....we ordered the mixed fried platter and the portion was huge..we didnt finish it between two people..

My family use to be regulars at the old location on Monterey Rd. We've come a handful of times since the relocation hoping to taste the great food we once had. Tonight was our disappointing last straw. It was my Dad's 67th Bday. Although we sat down right away. We waited over an hour to be served luke warm food with little to no flavor. Sadly the only reason it's even earning the one star is because the cheese fondu was good . I wouldn't recommend eating here. I certainly won't be back... I'll melt my own cheese.

Upon entering this restaurant I was favorable impressed by the decor versus my expectations. We were sat promptly by a friendly host and everything was downhill after that. Ordered a basic chicken caeser- the lettuce was brown the chicken did not taste fresh and was quite salty. The server was pretty rude - referred to us as "kids" several times- definitely not appropriate for a business lunch. The only thing I had that was edible was the bread- based on the difficult of acquiring a refill for my soda I figured it would be best to not get greedy and finish the meal hungry.

My hubby wanted to try this place, he's never been & I haven't been in a looong time - since I was a little girl. The fondue that I loved as a child isn't quite what I remembered - not bad, just not great. My hubby and I both ordered steaks. Neither of them were cooked to order, although mine still came out pretty darn good. My husband didn't like his at all. The potatoes and veggies, although good, were cold. The service was pretty decent. Not sure if we'll try again.

Continue to frequent this place and LOVE it. 5 star service. We have the best waiter every time and he is ON POINT. LOVE THE BOLD KNIGHT

This is painful. I used to love this place, and I was here at least once a week. But tonight's experience trumped everything. While having some cocktails with my girlfriends, we overheard the new owner of the establishment give some very unflattering opinions about municipal and public safety employees. Now, I have to admit, I am one (public safety). And truthfully, there are those who choose public service and those who choose private enterprise based on what they want from their respective careers. There are arguments for and against both. They are not the focus of this discussion. When 70% of your clientele are municipal employees (because your restaurant is across the street from so many municipal offices), don't sit three chairs down from said municipal/public safety employees at your own bar and bad mouth them. Highly uncouth. This is especially true if you are the new owner of a formerly beloved San Jose establishment who is struggling to hold on to market share. Shame on you. I'm never coming back.

we enjoyed our visit here. We had the fondue, dinner salad and veal picata. The service was great; attentive and not overbearing. We were greeted and served drinks and fondue by the assist waiter - he was great. Jesenia was our main server and she was terrific too.

Came here on Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised to have a great meal! There were 6 adults, and everyones dinner was great. The fondue appetizer was delicious as was my linguine with scampi. Others had the eggplant parmesan, garlic chicken breast, and chicken and shrimp combo. The salads were very fresh and delicious. Not sure what happened with the other reviewers to have such a bad experience. Ours was great and we will return.
(4)Marie S.
I love this place! The service is great, and the food is too. I never get food arriving steaming from the kitchen at a lot of places, even really nice ones. It's never that hot. The food was fresh, they were cool about the omissions I wanted, and the value is great. You can't get a good pasta dish for less than $20.00 or so, especially with seafood. It's the only good restaurant near my work as well.
(5)Charissa P.
Very horrible service. I went here for a little wedding reception. Nothing fancy because it was just around 23 people. Small and intimate. People paid for their own food too. Anyway, the main people had to flag the waiters just so we can order. It took literally 20 minutes after everyone had arrived. Plus, I order Sprite or whatever they have and I never got it! I order the Petite Filet Mignon with rice. It was good and I did really like their rice. And the Cheese Fondue and Bread Cubes is really addicting! I could barely finish my entree after eating so many bread cubes covered in cheese! haha! Everyone around me were complaining about the service so I'm not the only one!

I was on the hunt for new breakfast joints that were not in the WG. Why? Well because if it's in the WG it has to be amazingly over the top even though it really isn't. Yes..there is life outside the WG and I'm on a mission to find it. Ok not really but at least an alternative to fix my craving for those oh so yummy eggs benedict. Just like many of you we used to frequent the old Bold Knight on sketchy Monterey Road for those juicy steaks. We never had breakfast there but we sure miss it and after checking out their online bistro menu I was sold. It was a warm Sunday afternoon and the parking was tight. I thought we would have a long wait like at IHOP just down the street. Luckily we were quickly seated. The place is nice and modern. They sat is in the dining room next to the bar but business there was brisk so it worked out fine. We were initially concerned the service would suck since we weren't in the main dining room but they assured us we would be taken care of. Our waitress had a nice smile that showed off her smoker's smile and a few missing teeth. She reminded me of a crack head that tried to put her self together right before her shift. Nevertheless for the most part she was on top of everything. Coffee: Good cup of Joe. No complaints there. $2.00 OJ: The OJ appears to be freshly squeezed which is probably why it had a not so good flavor. If the oranges aren't just right then your juice won't be either. $3.00 Eggs benedict: I requested my poached eggs to be cooked hard boiled. I explained to her I didn't want runny eggs which she repeated back to me twice. When my order came out I stuck my fork in the middle of both eggs only to see a runny nightmare. For some reason runny eggs gross me out. I hunted her down and she said she would take care of it. My order finally found its way to me but after my wife was completely done with her breakfast. The hollandaise sauce was the blandest I've ever had so I have to admit I was disappointed with my order. It also included a side of fresh fruit. $7.95 Breakfast Croissant: Scrambled eggs with Canadian bacon, tomatoes and cheese. This is what was expected and it certainly hit the spot. $7.95 I am still on the fence on this place. Maybe they haven't squared breakfast away yet. Maybe we came on an off day. Maybe we need to return only for dinner. Maybe I need to stop making excuses. I don't see us returning for breakfast but we may return for dinner. I also want to try their cheese fondue though I know not to expect La Fondue quality. I still wonder why they closed their other landmark location. If anyone knows it would be nice to know. Not a winner but not a loser. * On our Sunday brunch visit they gave us complimentary Mimosas. Sweeeet!

Very good steaks and the fondue is very good as well. Since they have moved to the new location though it is a bit of a let down. The old location was so much bigger and the food seemed to be better at the other location as well. Hopefully the quality gets back to what it used to be.

Another great experience at the Bold Knight. We had our Husbands party there in the banquet room. The Staff was wonderful and attentive to our guests. We had a bartender on site in the room which made accessability to beverages very nice. The evening went smooth and everyone had a great time . We had about 40 people there and we danced until 11:00pm. The food order was prepared as requested & the price is right comparably to other locations that do the same. I would definitly recommend the bold knight. for those who have continued complaints.. i think there is another agenda.

I have breakfast here all the time. The bold knight steak and eggs is delicious!! It comes with toast and some of the best darn potato's I've had. Well cooked with bell peppers and onions to a toasty crunch. Two thumbs way up for the food. Although there isn't ever a wait for seating, they do tend to take long getting your food out to you. And be sure to ask them for anything you might need before they walk away. It maybe the last time you see them for a while. Price range is reasonable for the food portion and quality. Plus the inside of the restaurant looks nice, quiet but nice. In my opinion they need to play some music. All you can hear are dishes clashing and people whispering.

Bold Knight: BAD IDEA: Had lunch with a coworker on 9/8 about 12.30... I ordered nothing special: a steak sandwich (ordered medium rare), fries & a coke. I received a medium well-cooked sandwich, but in the interest of time, I wasn't going to bother them about it... however in hind-sight, I wish I would have... Back at work about 4:30pm, I start feeling sick to my stomach... I spent the next 3 days dealing with food poisoning! -ES Table 14/1 2/20017 2097166 $38.07 + $6.93 tip

I finally made it over to the new Bold Knight Bistro last night. We were big fans of the old Bold Knight on Monterey Highway, so we had high hopes for the new location. The menu has many of the same items as before, with some good additions (more entree salads and appetizers). Soup or salad used to come with the entrees, now it's an extra $1.95. Hrm. They've changed the legendary cheese fondue as well - same flavor, but now served in a more "traditional" fondue setup with bread cubes and long fondue forks. Cute. Onto the food. I tried one of the new salads - Caesar with a side of Troy, I think it was called. Caesar salad with some Greek salad items on the side (feta, cucumber, tomato, olives), and chicken breast on top. HUGE portion of Caesar salad, kinda skimpy on the cucumber and tomato. I didn't try the Caesar dressing, option for tzatziki instead (theirs is ok - a little too peppery and thin for my taste). Others at the table had the New York Strip steak (good), Bold Knight steak and prawns (both good), calamari appetizer (really thick batter, not the lighter-tempura-style batter I've been seeing lately, wouldn't order it again), and steakhouse salad (with a whole unsliced piece of steak on the side). Baked potatoes rocked, as always. Good selection of Tazo hot teas, always a bonus. Overall, it was a good time. There was a mixup with the bill (three extra alcoholic drinks magically appeared on there!), but otherwise the service was ok. The waitstaff seems new (though we recognized the owner/manager from the other location), so hopefully they'll get more in the swing of things. (The busser decided to clear the huge fondue platter over my guest's head instead of waiting one minute for us to leave - odd!). We'd definitely go back, but it's just lacking... something... from the old location.

I've been to the Bold Knight twice. It's a pretty decent place overall, service was great, but not sure if I'd really want to give them a good rating on their food. Prices are pretty reasonable. Had their cheese fondue twice and I was disappointed with the cheese. It was salty and it tasted like it came out of a jar and they used the cheapest form of cheese for their fondue. The first time I came here, I was craving for their prime rib, they had sold out that night, so I decided to get the lobster tail. But what a disappointment. The lobster was a bit on the tough side. I'm a huge fan when it comes to eating lobster and I've had better lobster than this time around. Last night I was back for my second time. They have a pretty good selection for their Monday thru Thursday special. I had ordered their bistro trio which came with a steak, lobster tail and prawns. What a deal for $12.99!!! I had asked for my steak to be medium rare and it came back to me well done. It was that well done that I had to somewhat load my steak with A1 sauce in order to make it moist. This time around the lobster was a bit better, the prawns could have been better. Not sure if I'll be back.

Wow what a lame excuse of fondue. Ever since melting pot closed last year, i have been looking for a somewhat affordable restaurant with fondue other than La Fondue. I used to be a frequent visitor of the old Bold Knight, but I was warned that the new location just was not the same, I figured I would see for myself. The place was empty at 6pm on a Saturday, but we still had to wait 10-15 minutes to be seated. we ordered halibut, the prawn platter and fondue to share. The fondue was HORRRRRIBLE! It was Velveta, IF that!!! Crusty cheese is pretty nasty!!!! Thankfully we only paid $5 for that bull The halibut looked like it had Prego marinara sauce over it, my $19 shrimp dinner came with 6 shrimps NO JOKE!!! and was very overcooked. i dont think I would go back if it were free....ever! Really sad how downhill this place has gone

This is a rock solid place for a good lunch at a good price. I had their mushroom and swiss burger and it was perfectly done with a side salad that was crisp and fresh along with some homemade fries. The service wasn't great but not horrible. The waiter was there enough, but the water guy was always MIA and I easily drink a gallon of water a day. The food was out lightning quick and superb in quality. How busy it was at lunch, there were at least 60 other people that agreed with me.

My parents started bringing me to Bold Knight when I was about 5yrs old and that was 24 years ago. Something is missing at the new location, perhaps it's the Knights armor that decorated the old place or just the dark dungeon like atmosphere. That being said, I really want to like this place I really do, but there are some definite down sides. Like others have mentioned the parking can be horrible, I'm not the kind of guy who wants to pay an 18yr old to park my car at a kind of out of the way place in San Jose. I can never seem to get a decent cut of steak lately either, it's always filled with fat. I will say however that the cheese fondue is excellent and the service is always good. Cliffs: -Mediocre steak and seafood, good chicken and pasta -Great cheese fondue -Good service -Recommend

Great brunch. We stopped in here Sunday and had a lovely time. Attentive but unobtrusive service, and great prices. I had a wonderful breakfast sandwich, different from anything I'd ever had--scrambled eggs, spinach, mushrooms, peppers and Canadian bacon with cheese on fresh focaccia, Fiance had something simple: two eggs with bacon and hash browns. Their bacon was GREAT! Thick cut, and the perfectly crisp...and plenty of it! To top it all off, free mimosas! How could it get better than that! I think BK will now be on our regular rotation along with the Willow Glen Bill's Cafe. On a more humorous note, we must have been the youngest people in there by about 20-30 years, but who cares? We had a wonderful Sunday brunch.

Great beef selections, warm, gracious service, beautiful surroundings. I had the sirloin steak, that came with fried prawns, scallops and oysters. Excellent all around. Mashed potatoes were real, and thankfully, sans peelings. Others had the filet wrapped in bacon, very nicely seasoned. Fish was okay, except for the crab cake, which was ... meh. Salads were fresh and nice. Fondue = velveeta style, not the classic swiss/white wine fondue, but okay if you like the Kraft mac & cheese flavors. Great value, and a nice locale for a big group -- there's even a private room downstairs for banquets/parties.

My family has been going to the Bold Knight since I was a baby - that's a lot of years. When the original closed down we were distressed! However, since finding the new Bistro we've fallen in love with them all over again. Karen our server is excellent always pays special attention to us and our families needs. The food is better than ever, the menu streamlined and the location cozy and beautiful. The food has never been better.

Bummer, this place had gone downhill! Went for breakfast on Sat. and it wasn't busy at all and food was lukewarm and they changed the country sausage which is one of the main reasons why we go there! Tastes like hamburger.. YUK. Won't go back :( Like everywhere else they are cutting corners and driving people away and its always COLD in there!
(2)Rebecca S.
Used to go to BK back in the day when it was on Monterey Road. It moved a few years back to this obscure location across from the county courthouse. This location is much smaller, and doesn't have the Medieval Times vibe like the old one did. At the old location, the decor depicted it's name perfectly: when you walked in it was dimly lit with stone fireplaces and knight statues strategically placed about, and the tables were huge wooden round tables that could seat large groups of people. This location has more modern decor without the wizardry. The food quality has also downsized. Now we only come for breakfast (which isn't anything special) and the fondue just isn't as good as I remembered. Service is spotty. We don't go out of our way to dine here like before.
(3)Randall L.
The average age of their customers is probably 45. We felt a little weird being on the younger side at an average age of 23. But that's not the reason for 2 stars. The food was alright and I don't feel that I necessarily got ripped off because we were filled and had leftovers, but I know there are better steakhouses. I had the Porterhouse and she had the New York Strip; her's was more cooked perfectly. Mine was cooked to medium when I ordered medium rare. There is nothing special about the cheese fondue. It'll be unlikely that I come back here before 45.

My husband and i love trying new places, so we decided to give this place a shot, well let me tell you it was not the best we've had, first of all not much later after we arrived my son spotted this huge cockroach upside down alive, my husband ran to get someone so the server came to sweep it up and then it got away so i stepped on it really fast and killed it. well obviously after that we didn't even feel like eating there anymore because then another server came and we told him about it and he went on to say that he had already mention it to the owner and he said that there was cockroaches in the kitchen also and not only that he also mention rats, he blame it on the restaurant next door, but honestly that was like the most nastiest thing ever, so as you can imagine we didn't even enjoy our foot at all, the pancakes were rubbery,my omelette had some peppers in the middle that tasted like they where bad, my husband biscuits were nasty so he said. Total disappointment not only that when i get the bill i decide to talk to the manager about our visit and they tell me he just left, i'm like what really so who is in charge? they said they can call him on the phone which he didn't answer, they asked for my number so he can call me back, well until now i'm still waiting for a call. all i can say is BAD,BAD,BAD

Pass on Bold Knight Bistro! I was here for a friend's birthday dinner. We had reservations, but they were not needed, as there were very few patrons in the place. We were seated right away. The waiter greeted us and we reviewed the menu before ordering. When he came back, we asked about one of the wines on the preferred list, only to find out that they no longer have that wine. Then why keep it as preferred?? We ordered the cheese fondu. All it really is is melted velveta. And not completely melted at that. :( We ordered and waited and waited and waited. We were served more drinks, but were never told about our food. Finally, when we asked "it would be a few minutes" MANY minutes later the food arrived..COLD!!! All of our meals, not just one or two, but all of them. Some sent them back to be heated up, but I just kept mine. I ordered the chicken and it was very dry. I had to get extra maranara sauce for it. My mashed potatoes were stuck to each other and gross. I only ate the top of them. The green beans were also very buttery... Not a good meal at all! Evidently, we got the check and were able to leave and I don't think I'll be back. And I would not recommend this place to anyone!
(2)Liz C.
Not the old Bold Knight of Monterey Road. The service was good, but the ambiance and food was average. Dinnerware left much to be desired, my sister was digging to a salad and the fork bent, we fought off gnats while dining, a bit overpriced for the meals. My Pina Colada was disguised as a slurpee of somesort. Overall, the service was good, just don't think I"ll be back for quite some time.
(2)CM P.
I went here for Sunday brunch with my family. The menu is huge, the prices reasonable, but the food is nothing special. The coffee was sub-par. My problem was with the service. We sat for what seemed like eternity for our grumpy waitress to take our order, then we sat for another 30 minutes for our food. What was interesting was that the other tables were not eating either! I guess there was only one cook that day. I would not recommend this place for breakfast, though I hear that the dinner is much much better.

Nice looking place. Food is below-average, but not terrible. Service is horrible. Over an hour to get a lunch order ... yes over an hour. Fix the service and change the chef, you may have a winner. For now, a 1 star.
